look i know that the americans go for a fighter going forward but joe was going forward and doing nothing...his slaps of punches did not land much or do much damage to hopkins.

i agree that hopkins should have worked more

if you put the 2 of them at age 28 or in thier prime vs each other then there is only 1 winner.....hopkins.

joe won teh fight but i cant stand the legend killer crap....he barely got past a 43 year old man

ps: team calzaghe really thought so much of hopkins that they got him a walking stick....really shows how brave they are thinking that fighting old men makes you a legend

joe take 2-3 years off and come back and fight pavlik...you will be lucky to see round 8

Hopkins may be over 40, but he is still top 10 p4p, so give Calzaghe some credit. Take 2-3 years off? That is not what Hopkins did, so why are you suggesting it for Calzaghe?

People are so quick to say "oh if this had happened in 2001, Joe would have got destroyed", but also consider that Joe is past his prime now and he had a bit of an off night by his own standards. So you cant move the goal posts like that and say a better Hopkins would have won, because a better Calzaghe would have won even more convincingly.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

No point wasting your breath with ref to moving the goal posts, because when do the theories stop, how far do you go? Would it degenerate into "if Hopkins had robotic arms, a gun, and some lazers, he'd beat Calzaghe easy".

Calzaghe is old, Hopkins is even older, Hopkins fought dirty and negative, Joe had a poor night and slapped his way through 12 rounds... but Joe did enough to win on the night. The end.

Well that is a well thought out and conclusive point, guess the discussion is over. Sarcasm over, I have no idea why you would psot that, seems extremly juvenile and useless. Oh well, you probably scored the fight to Hopkins too, it would figure.

The fight was crap from start to finish, by the 11th round i had pretty much stopped watching it and was wondering of the wierdo sat at the bar wearing a Panama hat was Oliver (Thank fornicate he wasnt)

Dreadful letdown, i couldnt give a fornicate who "deserved" to win. As a spectacle it was loose stool water, at best

End of the Fight Hopkins looked the same as he did before the Fight.

Calzaghe Had a Big Cut on his Nose.

I gave it about 114-113 to Hopkins.

I will never ever know how Giampa gave it 116-111. Never.

I have seen the Fight Twice, i can only see Joe really wobbling Hopkins once, whereas Hopkins Wobbled Joe on several occasions.

I don't know, maybe it was Joe's Dance that impressed Giampa
you don't score fights on the look of someone's face, or who is wobbled more often.

I can understand how Giampa gave that score, even if I don't agree with it. There were about five rounds could have gone either way.

1234 definately hopkins for sure.

7 and 10 were also clear enough IMO.

even if you give calzaghe all the other rounds he loses
Especially if you hate British people.

I had Joe by 3 when I watched it, but that was my memory of the rounds sitting here today.

I would have been disapointed had BH got it, and the punch stats back that up to. But I wouldn't have screamed rovbbery.

I had one round scored differently to you DP, but that's about it. Possibly the third, but I'm not sure.

If he can take shots from Taylor, Miranda and Zuniga and not be stopped, I don't think Joe can.

That said, I do think he will be KO'd at some point in his career. His stance when hooking is bound for a counter. If only Toney stayed off the pies.

I'm looking forward to Lockett having a go at finding the lottery ticket.

I keep thinking of Tito v Leushing. Which is nothing like these two but I keep thinking Lockett may drop him and then get mercilessly smashed up.

Arguably more excited about that fight than I was last weekends.

Got to love a gutsy underdog.

I see there's boxing on BBC2 at 12 noon on Sunday 27th. Think that might be the re-run of the Calzaghe fight for anyone who's not seen it yet.

Taylor had him down with his explosiveness but was too negative to finish him, Miranda barely landed any shots on him as Pavlik just towered over him and smothered him from doing anything.

Joe could have him down on volume and stop him.

I wouldn't be suprised If Lockett wins, he's explosive with his punch and Isn't negative like Taylor was.

Me too mate. I'm seriously considering going. Especially with the undercard.

If Gary goes out hard and fast, he could cause an upset. But if he hasn't stopped him within 4 I expect Pavlik to stop him around 8 to 10.

I always said last Sat's fight was gonna be like watching paint dry. I never forgave Hopkins for robbing me of 2 hours of my life for Taylor I and II.

Didn't know how to score it on fight night but gave it to Joe without doubt on 2nd viewing, by a round.

No one thinks Hopkins won more than 6 rds. ppl do think that Joe could have won 7 rds. more ppl think Calzaghe won, especially in America.

Also, Hopkins bought that massive rest in rd 10 when he was knackered. If he hadn't done this and surprised Joe after the rest, then Hopkins wouldn't have won rd 10 and wouldn't be in with a shout of winning the fight at all.

Joe did adjust, did find a way into the fight with fast straight lefts and did find a way to take away the Hopkins right.

Hopkins can make a fight with anyone close right now - if he fought Dawson it'd be like the Taylor fights IMO - because he just won't give you an opening or commit to an attack.

Joe definitely deserved to win it. He took rds 11 and 12. Found a way in America after - IMO - not preparing properly or coming into the fight giving Hopkins sufficient respect. Beat that UK/US gap, the culture shock which definitely made it easier for Hopkins to win the early rds. However, because he won so close I just feel he has more dues to pay - especially at 175-lbs.

Good point. I think there are two issues. Joe could've made this fight easier by fighting in the US before/better sparring/and a bit better opposition in title defenses.

And also, he doesn't look a natural light heavy because it seems to take something off his speed and obviously the lack of power is even more apparent.

Good fighter though, finding a way into a fight that looked a lost cause over the first 3rds.

Well im a Brit. Although i tried to keep Neutral for this fight, i had slight support for Joe since i seen him fight before, and never seen hopkins before.

But seriously, from my View, trying to look at it as a Neutral Guy, Hopkins took it

What happened happened!stop whining. :( :(
JC won a split dec.
If BHOP as he says (in his post fight comments)he came to win, it certainly didnt look that way.All I saw was a guy who permanantly held, ran, cried foul he came to cheat!Apart from age factor he held all theother advantages. After the knockdown he surely should have got the incentive to step up and finish the job.
