Has to be his fight with Richie Kates... makes Foreman vs Lyle look like a barn dance!... his match with Murry Sutherland was great too as were his first two fights with Lopez and Johnson.

I don't think I ever saw a Saad Muhammad fight that wasn't a tear-up. As for tear-up titlefights, you might want to check the Richie Kates fight and the fights with John Conteh and Dwight Braxton. Saad got beat up pretty bad in the 2nd Braxton fight, but their first meeting was a real barn-burner.

The best of his other defenses (from a fan's point of view) was the first Conteh fight. Actually, plenty of boxing skill demonstrated by both, but things heated up when, as in Johnson II, Saad was cut and had to step on the gas. Conteh was in the fight until the ever-persistent Saad floored him in the 14th.

Haven't seen the Conteh fight but wasn't there some controversy that Saad's corner had used an illegal compound to keep a bad cut on Saad's face from bleeding that would have surely stopped the fight in Conteh's favour.

I believe there was some controversy which may have led to the rematch. Much anticipated, but Conteh had nothing this time and was blown out in four. Then he got arrested after the fight, chasing a maid naked (Conteh, not the maid) through the hotel corridors.
Actually, Saad had some easy defenses: Conteh II, Mwale and Pergaud. Sutherland was kind of in between. The tough eye-popping bouts that sealed Saad's reputation were Kates, two with Lopez, two with Johnson and the first Conteh.

Yes, Saad's cutman was suspended after that. The substance was not only illegal, but it got into Coneth's eyes and affected his vision (you can see him blinking badly all through the fight).

What's even more amazing about this fight is that by this time Conteh had suffered that terrible hand-break that never really healed, and he fought the whole fight pretty much one-handed. :o  If only the man had two hands, who knows how great he would've been...

OK, I must admit that kovit's height fetish is beginning to creep me out. Kovit, have you considered seeing a licensed mental health specialist about your undiagnosed Procrustean height fixation?

In Kovits defence I must say that if you are building up a list of fighters records then its very relevent to have the fighters heights. I find it very annoying when I'm looking at a fighters record and the height isn't there.... the height tells you a lot about a fighter, is he short and stocky or long and rangey etc... so don't worry Kovit, I understand.

Pride doth ever goeth before Fwalle... ;)

So getting back to Greek mythology, you might say that Lottie spent an evening at Saad's inn and was stretched by a Procrustean uppercut. I think some liberal-arts student somewhere needs to write a tediously long PhD thesis about that metaphorical convergence, pointing out that of course Theseus and Procrustes were latent homosexuals who used macho bluster as a cover for it - like the bazillion theses along the same lines that have been written about Hemingway.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!

i dont think i've ever had one of my threads get this irritating.

kovit mate, why dont you do some frickin RESAERCH on the net? obviously nobody here knows. if it makes you feel better lottie mwale had a rep for being a "lanky boxer with heavy ahnds" so that would suggest he is taller to me.

im getting mwales fights with saad muhammad and eddie mustafa muhammad on tape soon so i'll let you know somewhere down the line, okay?
