Post by Old bones Ian »

just looking round at some records on boxrec, and i saw Tommy Shiels, 11 fight , 11 wins 9ko's. Including KO wins over Kid Milo and Del Bryan.

wonder why he retired?

pretty sure that he found religion,he had a brother (Brian?) who was also a young prospect.I hope that I"m not spectacularly wrong but I seem to remember that they both became preachers or similar.

Kolfski went to jail in Canada for aggravated burgulary - he was an all round bad 'un.

I remember one of the Sheils knocking out Del Bryan on the telly and he retired through bad hands.

I knew Tommy Shiels quite well from the amateurs. He boxed out of Stowe ABC (I don't know if the club is still around). Nice stylish tall boxer was Tommy. I heard that he was living in Australia at one one time, but the last I heard he became a born again christian, as you say, and was preaching on the streets of North London (the guy who told me this, probably unkindly, saying 'that he had lost his marbles and become a bible basher').

I don't remember a younger brother tbh. But he had an older brother Dean who I believe was a decent fighter too (I think he fought out of Repton for a time).
