I think people are mistaken in thinking Lockett was so bad, for me it was a case of Pavlik being so good. He's very underrated as a technical boxer and his jab controlled the fight, the range, set up that booming right hand of his and he even used it as a defensive deterrent when Lockett tried to come forward. I also think his body shots played a bigger part then what he was given credit for, the first Lockett knockdown was more to do with that big right hand to the body then the head shots Gary was taking.
Pavlik also looked massive compared to Gary. Kelly previous opponents Jermaine Taylor and Edison Miranda were middleweights who were really super-middleweights where Lockett was a former light-middleweight. So Pavlik's size was even more of an advantage.
So this does make me wonder how effective Pavlik would be if he goes up in the divisions and challenges bigger and heavier type of opponents. When he fought Taylor at 166lbs his power didn't look effective as it did at 160lbs. But if he stays at 160lbs I would imagine he has the beating of any middleweight that is put in front of him.
Chris_23 if you reading this then big respect for getting behind your man. At least Gary went out on his shield.
