Im sure, as a pro with a huge number of bouts under his belt, he's a proper handful. Just a shame he (as has been criticised with other pros) doesnt bloody fight in the ring. He ran from Aaron Thomas all night long.

I have put my self between trouble and trouble on another occasion. Same bunch were heading for kebab shop and taxi, about 2am in Cambridge, I was with big Harry Rice - bit of a lad at Norwich FC - a tall fella named James who told everyone he was a face at the City Ground and was well 'ard. I never take much notice, but he was good at cricket. Anyhow, those and LeSaux lookalike were strolling along, and around the corner comes two Ray Mercer lookalikes, one male one female. The male, only very close inspection revealed the female was in fact a female, shouts to try and stop a passing taxi.

"Oh man!" he exclaimed.

to which my Graham LeSaux mate, Smithy, urges him to "Calm down mate, this aint New York you know!"

This didn't seem to sit well with Ray, who marched toward young Smithy asking whether he though "every brother was from New York?"

Before you know it Ray Mercer has come over all Larry Holmes and starts running around the car, we're trying to get in, chasing Smithy. It was like Tom and Jerry, hilarious. Well apart from the fact the two resident hardmen, stood dumbfounded as Smithy prepared to give away around 120pounds in a match-up even the WBO wouldn't have sanctioned during Ray Mercer's reign.

Left to muggins to duck the bullets and intervene.

Funny on reflection. I'm just pleased Mrs Mercer didn't intervene. There could have been rivers of blood.

Freeman is as fit as a butchers dog though Teddy - Cockerill would have had lots of size on him but I would have thought that in an 'all in' scrap Freeman would have done him after the big man ran out of steam..

Freeman recently man-handled the much younger scouse former street scrapper Paul Cahoon in an MMA match - he is a physical marvel for his age..

A good big un beats a good little un, and cockerill wouldve had a 6 or 7 stone of steroid fulled aggression over freeman. Also, cockerill all in wouldve probably included ripping his eyes out.

Still, one of those street fights that would depends on circumstance and "on the day" I'd imagine.

Of his 7 losses 3 were by submission, 4 by KO. (although the Overeem loss is recorded as a submission I thought he was KOed by knees TBH)

There is no shame in getting KO’ed by Arlovski and Manhoef though – they are both monsters.

Wins over Mir, Epstein, Cahoon, Fulton are all decent scalps. Coupled with a draw against a still-dangerous Vernon White, these results make Freeman one of the best early MMA ambassadors this country has produced.

Cockerill’s form line? Beating up drug dealers for their cash and stash.

I only know of him what I saw on the Bravo documentary but I would back the proven, tested professional fighter 9 times out of 10.

I agree terry although cockerill would be a handful in the street, even for someone of freemans ilk. Plenty of so called hardmen are shown up when they get in the ring / MMa circle though. Theres an unlicensed show in north Wales in a few weeks and a couple of known bully's are entering. Im hoping they fight a couple of well schooled but muppet looking boxers as they'll be made to look silly with the gloves on.

He was training for the fight in my old amateur gym and a couple of weeks later after he'd beaten Cockerill (apparently with bodyshots while Bri had his back against a car) he returned to our gym, gave the coach a wad of cash and told him to "get the lads some new gear"

Any half decent amateur would have an easy time in a boxing ring against a novice irrespective if he is a 20 stone roidhead doorman or not
If the likes of Kevin Evans wa competing I would seriously fear for the health of his opponent, and in fairness such mismatches should not be allowed

To clear up a few things - it is not white collar, it is amateur (but no headguards) most of these guys box reguarly. The fighters are being followed by a TV crew, we will see the doorman in their homes, at work, with their families and in the gym. We will see their human side.

Why boxing? because boxing needs skill. cage is for people that can't use their hands!

How were the 16 chosen? On the whole they were nominated by their door firms.

Is it still possible to take part? There are no gaps this year, they already have fall backs in case someone has to drop out.

Will these bouts give them ranking within that body! They will probably give out a title for this, subject to sanctioning fees of course!

A friend fought on a EBF card in chorley on the weekend so I had a quick look on their site. Eugene Monterio is one of their champions, as is sugar boy malinga (although not that one that fogut Benn, isnt there one from around manc?).

Also their HW title is up for grabs in sepember

Yeah, been to a few EBF shows in Nottingham. John Ashton promotes them and they are entertaining fights.

Daz Davies is Ashton’s main man, the heavyweight champion. I saw him lose six out of seven rounds to former pro Dave Clarke before pulling some huge punches out of the bag to win by knockout. Daz has won all of his fights inside and knocked out another former pro, Paul Fiske, in his last fight.

Scott Lansdowne told me he wants to fight Davies.

A few ex-pros fight on the bills: Dominic Negus, Greg Scott-Briggs, who is the Midland Area champion, and Eugenio Monteiro.
