Don't act like there is no race card to be played. It's a lot more covert than you might realise.
Ask yourself one question: Is racism obsolete in the entertainment business and sport of boxing? If the answer is no, then don't criticise Mayweather for using the race card.
I think there is a bit of race in boxing but not as much as floyd makes out. Its a simple fact though that a White champion will sell allot of tickets because they are few and far to come by. Look at Pavlik, Gatti, Hatton, Wlad, Vitali - all massive sellers in a very short space of time. Hopkins, Mayweather, Winky Wright took a long time to breakthrough to the big time and Hopkins especially was pretty exciting before he hit 35+, Mayweather was much more exciting before he left 140. At 147 he was just too small to be able to get away with exciting (exchanging). How many of Mayweathers fights were dull affairs though? Baldomir, Castillo 2 and Delahoya were the worst but aside from those most had quite a high excitement level.
Exciting fighters usually sell well regardless of race and these days most black fighters value defense and not being hit more than the top white fighters and this may lose some.
Gatti was entertaining, but so are allot of British title bouts in the same journeymen style. Mitchell-Johansen, Gomez-Johanson, Gomez-Arthur - all amazing fights, drifts off on a tangent, I wonder if Khan-Murray will be as good
Personally I love watching Mayweather fight but many prefer British title fight level brawls.
