Barrera, Golden Boy split!
After a successful five year relationship, Golden Boy Promotions and former world champion Marco Antonio Barrera have amicably agreed to end their association with each other with Barrera having been released from his promotional contract and agreeing to give up his position as a partner in Golden Boy Promotions. "Marco is ready to move in new direction with respect to his boxing career," said Golden Boy President Oscar de la Hoya. "We respect him and want to honor his decision to make a change. We wish him the best of luck and look forward to the prospects of working with him again in the future." Barrera stated, "While I have a great respect for Oscar de la Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, I have decided that I wanted to take a new path with respect to my boxing career. I am pleased that we will move forward as friends."

Anway, Barrera leaving GBP may have been on the cards a while. He wasn't happy with the scoring of the JMM fight.

I think Fernando Montiel and (possibly) Jhonny Gonzalez left GBP unhappy about how their careers were being handled.

I was reading that the deal to fight Arthur was very close, and Barrera was coming out of retirement to take the fight. He was going to come over to Scotland for it too.

Surprise surprise it fell through.

I wonder if it will be back on the cards now he is a free agent.

i was disappointed with his effort against pac.

i know pac is difficult to fight and packs a punch.

He wanted to fight the winner of JMM and Casa. Although that may have fallen through now.

His departure means there's a vacancy - now I wonder who might get that ............

I can't remember why the Valero fight didn't come off. It possibly had something to do with Valero only being licensed to fight in Texas.

I don't think the Guzman fight was a true reflection of Soto's qualities. Guzman just had that horrid defensive style that some fighters can't handle. Even Alexis Arguello could get outslicked, once by a guy who wasn't supposed to be in the same league.

Soto is naturally bigger than Pac, better schooled, and a naturally bigger man. Should be a tough one for Manny & I'm hoping there is an upset.

However, if Manny drops the WBC super feather belt, I think Soto will fight Lorenzo again, this time for the WBC belt outright.

I think Soto can grow naturally into lightweight - I hope the big fight happens - and maybe become another Castillo, ie hard hitting, well schooled, tall pressure fighter and WBC champ.

They dole out bullshit 'partnerships' left, right and centre in their various 'companies' - Golden Boy East, West, blah, blah....

Their strategy won't work in boxing. It's not a sport that boasts many sucessful partnerships is it. Ego's will always get in the way. Everyone has their own needs, opinions and agendas.

Haye's promises are getting a bit boring. Don't know who he's fighting, don't know if those 2 amateur kids he "signed" are actually going pro. Obviously takes a lot of sorting out, but listening to all this bragging is getting a bit boring. We want to see him announce an opponent, so we can start looking forward to something. Haye's attitude was great through the Macc build up/fight/post fight, but let's see the next stage happen.
