i've had a little go on Billy Joe Saunders and James DeGale. I think Gavin has the best chance of gold but am a bit concerned about him doing the weight and he's short enough in price.

Viktar Zuyev-Heavyweight-Belarus has been in a bit of a slump of late but in 2004 he peaked in the Olympics beating Devin Vargas on the way to the silver and many thought he was robbed in the Gold medal bout vs Solis. I think he could easily win this weight if he can recapture the from he had, obviously nerves are not a factor for this guy.

I look forward to seeing Julius and John Jackson sons of Julian "The Hawk" Jackson that many of us enjoyed watching as world champion back in the 90's. If they have the power their dad had,watch out.

Isnt Oscar Molina (Javier's twin) fighting for Mexico ? I didnt see any odds on him listed.

No Oscar Molina failed to qualify.

John Jackson is ok and beat Pan Am Games Champion Pedro Lima, but I expect them to exit early unless they get an amazing draw.

Interesting odds. They seem quite in line with my expectations, so perhaps my predictions are decent.

If I were betting on this, I think the Cubans are the best bargains. Vodopyanov is the least favored favorite, so he might be worth a try since he's still quite young and will perhaps improve on his winning performance in Chicago.

I think McWilliams as a good shot at making it to the end, you have to consider McWilliams has a victory over Warren and a RSC victory over Laffita, I would say his one of the sleepers in this division.

Carlos Negron, this kid has been left out, clearly the best representative of the Americas in the 81kg weight class, with previous wins over the american and cuban this kid has the tools to dominate with ease, standing at 6'4 with good boxing skills it will be hard to not bet on him.

Good tip on Negron, thanks. He's been flying under my radar, since he didn't fight at the Worlds and got beaten early at the Pan Ams, and then won the Trinidad qualifier without beating any big names.

I watched his fight on Youtube with Siju Shabazz at the US-PR event in Philadelphia and he looked a handful. He was listed as 6'6, and looked every inch of it, and was only 21 at the time of that fight. He's not a lean, athletic guy like Wilder - he's all knees and elbows. Looks like a pumpkin on a fencepost.

I like the way he works his jab and follows with short punches. Shabazz is not a top level fighter, so he still has a lot to prove to me, but he is an interesting guy to watch, largely because of his height. He looks uncoordinated - I would be fascinated to see how he does against someone like Atoev, who is short and would roughhouse him if he could get inside.

They are probably the safest bets, but I'm gonna go for a big one and say that I bet Frankie doesn't even medal.

Why would you bet on that? I'm thinking there's a chance he doesn't make weight, but if he does, I think he's got a medal easy. He recently beat guys like Boris Georgiev and Gyula Kate at 64kg, and made it look easy.

I like McWilliams to medal, however I´m not sure he has the speed to repeat his win over Warren (which was like 4-5 years ago). By the way, McWilliams didn´t RSC Laffita. The RSC victory was against Yoandry Salinas.
Also, Negron didn´t beat the cuban (Julio César De La Cruz). It was Christopher Downs who beat De La Cruz. Anyway, Negron looked good against Shabazz and I agree he could surprise but he really had a very bad Panams last year.

My new picks after the draw:

48: Zou Shiming (CHN)
51: Raushee Warren (USA)
54: Sergey Vodopyanov (RUS)
57: Albert Selimov (RUS)
60: Yordenis Ugas (CUB) (really I could´ve chosen Tischenko as well)
64: Serik Sapiyev (KAZ)

75: Matvey Korobov (RUS)
81: Artur Beterbiev (RUS)
91: Rakhim Chakhiyev (RUS)
+91: Roberto Cammarelle (ITA)

I guess 5-6 of these winning would be good.

Those are some interesting picks holeymoley99, but I dont see how anyone could not pic Zou to win, considering how dominant he has been and even more so the fact that they are in China.

48= Zou
51=Warren
54= Vodpanyov
57=Selimov
60= Ugas
64=Sapiyev
69=Andrade
75=Korobov
81=Beterbiv
91=Acosta
91+= Timurziev will win if he stays healthy.

So often the Olympic medals are determined by the brackets,if you road is too tough you get tripped up along the way. A few of my underdogs have very favorable draws (The path of least resistance if you will).

I think Zou has a chance because his draw was decent but there will be a TON of pressure on him with the country expecting nothing else.

I'm surprised to see you've got Georgiev... He looked old and slow (relatively speaking!) at the EU championships, where Gavin handled him with ease. I think Bradley Saunders could beat him as well...I don't see Artayev beating Korobov either...

And I think Rachimov is over the hill as well...

Artayev easily over Korobov and it wasnt real as close as the scores. So many world champions and upsets already hard to figure what lies ahead. I am clinging to a slim 1 point lead in the predictions contest,not a lot of breathing room.

This was a contest? Who determines the points?

And yes Kolya, the fight was more one sided then the scores indicated. Artaev was landing much harder shots and really roughing Korobov up. By the last round Korobov had nothing left.

Damn. I was really taken in the hype around Korobov. I know he's planning on turning pro after the Olympics and I think he was really banking on having a Gold Medal to turn pro with because his parents live in the US. He's 25 so I doubt he'll wait until 2012 when he'd be 29. Really too bad for him, I really believed he was the best.

Well Canada I guess whoever has the most champions wins right ? I believe only 3 of us picked all the weight classes and posted so it should be easy enough to score. No prize so maybe contest isnt the correct word how about Olympic Pickem Competition ? Interesting to track nevertheless, though a few more would have made it even more so huh ?

I had a feeling Zou Shiming might choke with all the pressure and he did just that today vs Oubali. It ended up tie and Zou was given the nod on accepted score. He appear to lose and was down by 1 with 15 seconds left. It doesnt appear a Gold is going to be his this year.

Yes it will. Come hell or high water; even if they have to pull a Tonya Harding, the Chinese are making sure Zou wins the Gold.
