Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
He's waiting for a no hoper to win a super middy title somewhere so he can challenge. Then he will be a three time champ....
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
was there ever an agreed weight for this fight, or did they just make it up as they went along?Grant wrote:He's waiting for a no hoper to win a super middy title somewhere so he can challenge. Then he will be a three time champ....
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
He only has to lose two kilo's to fight Geale, for some reason I was thinking he was around 78-79kg??
Might happen early 09??

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
he has been trying to convince us he is going to dominate the world middleweight division.
no wonder he has no credibility.
no wonder he has no credibility.
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
he needs to step up right now and fight and beat these topline blokes to have any credence with the true fight fans in australia. if he leaves it too long, another story of wasted potential.

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
Gives up the SMW belt to fight at MW and then makes a catchweight fight where he's still SMW? Tool.

Doesn't matter if it was only 500g over. He's still SMW.
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
Just goes to show what frigging circus WBA is.
He requests a rating @ middleweight & gets it (even though he never fought @ the weight) because he intends to fight @ the weight.
I wonder when this will happen?

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
ok, can i play devil's advocate here guys. shouldn't his record at SMW count towards a rating whether it be MW or LH??? i do realise in some sports that when the new season starts, we all start from scratch but there are some where you are seeded(ranked) on past performance.
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
yes it should but i do believe he should fight at the weight first, he has not yet proved to the WBA that he can make the weight thats why i think it is stupid if he had a fight at the weight no matter who it was against he deserves to be rated because of his past accomplishmentsunleash06 wrote:ok, can i play devil's advocate here guys. shouldn't his record at SMW count towards a rating whether it be MW or LH??? i do realise in some sports that when the new season starts, we all start from scratch but there are some where you are seeded(ranked) on past performance.
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
thanks p4p, good to get a fighters perspective on it. i suppose rankings don't really come into until you are in top ten and then the money fights and titles are at stake. where would be a realistic ranking for a situation like this then??p4p1 wrote:yes it should but i do believe he should fight at the weight first, he has not yet proved to the WBA that he can make the weight thats why i think it is stupid if he had a fight at the weight no matter who it was against he deserves to be rated because of his past accomplishmentsunleash06 wrote:ok, can i play devil's advocate here guys. shouldn't his record at SMW count towards a rating whether it be MW or LH??? i do realise in some sports that when the new season starts, we all start from scratch but there are some where you are seeded(ranked) on past performance.
Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
i think he should be ranked as a SMW prob number 1 or 2 because he was the champion and if he request to be rated at MW he should be on the condition he has a fight at the weight before he is rated if he does he should be in the top few of the ratings i believeunleash06 wrote:thanks p4p, good to get a fighters perspective on it. i suppose rankings don't really come into until you are in top ten and then the money fights and titles are at stake. where would be a realistic ranking for a situation like this then??p4p1 wrote:yes it should but i do believe he should fight at the weight first, he has not yet proved to the WBA that he can make the weight thats why i think it is stupid if he had a fight at the weight no matter who it was against he deserves to be rated because of his past accomplishmentsunleash06 wrote:ok, can i play devil's advocate here guys. shouldn't his record at SMW count towards a rating whether it be MW or LH??? i do realise in some sports that when the new season starts, we all start from scratch but there are some where you are seeded(ranked) on past performance.

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
He does deserve to be ranked, but ONLY after he's already fought in the division IMO. Everyone does. It's not footy with a new season and given it can take initially 15fights or so to get somewhere in the first place it would take too long.
BTW, anyone complaining, just keep in mind, the same thing happened with fighters like Green (if memory serves me correctly) to a degree at least.

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
i don't mind if they do rate him high at mw, but if that's what has happened and then he comes out and fights like last night and fights at smw then that is farcicle to say the least.
he should now be taken off the mw rankings immediately.

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
IMO he doesn't deserve to be ranked in the top 5 SMW let alone MW. Besides Green, he hasn't fought a credible opponent in years and anybody that has ever been rated highly has beaten him.
He had the perfect opportunity to right a wrong in Kessler and a win would have ranked him 1 @ SMW in line to fight any number of MW's or SMW's looking to consolidate belts. His best chance to fight someone like Pavlik or Taylor would have been from a Kessler win.
Instead he fabricates a reality where Kessler coming off a lose is a step down from him!!!! (This same rational doesn't apply to people like Sam). Moving to MW means better champions in Pavlik and Taylor (depsite the fact they are all likely to move up to SMW) and then goes and fights Kim...
I am well aware that he is all about the best payday with the least risk and he has been relatively successful from that point of view. He's a gifted athlete and with the right guidance he might have accomplished more or even kept his mouth shut long enough to get a sponsorship deal, but ultimately I wish everyone would turn there back on him until he steps up and takes a real fight.

Re: Mundine is still a super middy!
that just about hits the nail on the head. And that is why this forum, and the boxing fans in general, have lost respect for him. I believe, as has been stated by others, that he would quickly regain massive support he he took the risks.ccorrigan wrote:IMO he doesn't deserve to be ranked in the top 5 SMW let alone MW. He would also rack up a few more in the L column and he clearly doesn't want that...toppity wrote:I believe, as has been stated by others, that he would quickly regain massive support he he took the risks.
