Peter Buckley
Peter Buckley
I was just sat browsing the ratings and for some reason had a thought. Peter Buckley has had 293 fights. Does he have a full-time job aswell as boxing or can he live comfortably on what he earns in the ring. I dont actually know what journeymen get paid today.
Re: Peter Buckley
don't know but was glad to read in BN the other day that he is back.

Re: Peter Buckley
From what i remember he does abit of part time driving.
At a 'guess' id say in a 6x2's or 4x3's he will earn between £750 - £2000 depending on tv/sky and how late notice

Re: Peter Buckley
Tbh ive never seen him fight but with all those fights , he is bound to have problems in later life. He must either love fighting or has no other way of making money. What motivates him with such a crap record?

show the guy a bit of respect eh?metropol wrote:Tbh ive never seen him fight but with all those fights , he is bound to have problems in later life. He must either love fighting or has no other way of making money. What motivates him with such a crap record?
Re: Peter Buckley
He is good at not taking much punishment which is why he's only been KOed by one Brit boxer in Naz, he does it for the cash and also I guess cos he likes the sport and young fighters get a lot out of fighting him.metropol wrote:Tbh ive never seen him fight but with all those fights , he is bound to have problems in later life. Yes, metropol, Buckley's like the Queen Mother around these parts (except she's more likely to win a fight, even now), so be careful how you tread. Gawd luv 'im.teddy007 wrote:Without people like peter buckley boxing would be no more so shut it and on the problems in later life front....why do you think hes had all those fights? Its because he knows how to look after himself whilst testing out a prosect. They've got this law called 'lese majeste', which makes it a criminal offence to disrespect the king.
Which is exactly what I think of whenever anybody disrespects Peter Buckley on here and gets e-lynched.

Re: Peter Buckley
Now that I know that he has very few kos maybe he has good defensive skills or a very good chin. I was just trying to say that if your losing all the time your not really progressing anymore, so maybe it would be hard to keep going surley. He hasnt won in a while. Can any of you remember when he started out was he tipped to be any good?Mensa07 wrote:show the guy a bit of respect eh?metropol wrote:Tbh ive never seen him fight but with all those fights , he is bound to have problems in later life. Re: Peter Buckley
hes got my respect totally, i think looking his last result other than a loss was a draw with me, im not proud to say i drew with a guy with a record like his but i am proud to say i shared a ring with a small hall legend like pete and people who knock him for his no of losses should realise to step between the ropes 290 plus time takes some doing. hat off to ya pete mate.
Re: Peter Buckley
Its just a job for him, he's doing alot better than most winning fighters are mate.
Last time i saw him fight was in Wigan last year, he fought Kays and i was suprised at how much he DID get hit.

Re: Peter Buckley
Nice to see you here, Sean. Tell me, how was your fight with Buckley? He actually came to win for once? Or you just had the mother of all off-nights? No offence to you, it's just that Buckley doesn't even TRY to win these days, hasn't for years, so that result does look a bit of a mystery.seanshortfusehughes wrote:hes got my respect totally, i think looking his last result other than a loss was a draw with me, im not proud to say i drew with a guy with a record like his but i am proud to say i shared a ring with a small hall legend like pete and people who knock him for his no of losses should realise to step between the ropes 290 plus time takes some doing. hat off to ya pete mate.

Re: Peter Buckley
The likes of Buckley wouldn't get paid more by fight, but they earn their corn by fighting 15-20 times a year, whereas prospects would be unlikely to fight more than 6 timesmetropol wrote:Do you mean he gets paid more than wining fighters or what?rob h wrote:Its just a job for him, he's doing alot better than most winning fighters are mate.

no not at all no off night, i hold my hands up i was dropped by an absolute peach of a left hook in the 5th round of a 6x2fight. i was cruising up til then and thought id won despite that. but ive got no excuse i was a bit flabbby and took the fight thinking id cruise it. i think he gave it a go more than ive seen in the past but i should have just boxed my way to a points win like every1 else does instead of trying to stop him. a learning fight like he does with every fighter.

The only fighters who really get regular work are those who have records as durable fighters who typically lose.
A good example would be James Tucker and Matt Hainy. They fought a very good, close fight in Jan- I think it was Tucker's second and Hainy's debut. Hainy just shaded it. Since then Tucker has had about 10 fights, all points losses bar one draw, and Hainy, who is somewhat of a prospect, just 2.
Put another way, the regular work in boxing is for tough, durable fighters who are willing to travel the country, but are unlikley to win.

Wow, so Buckley can still throw a decent shot! Maybe it was a reflex action, like when people still blink after being beheaded!seanshortfusehughes wrote:hes got my respect totally, i think looking his last result other than a loss was a draw with me, im not proud to say i drew with a guy with a record like his but i am proud to say i shared a ring with a small hall legend like pete and people who knock him for his no of losses should realise to step between the ropes 290 plus time takes some doing. hat off to ya pete mate.

Seriously, though, thanks for the insight. Maybe, as you say, he was responding to your attempts to knock him out. Most of his fights seem to be a bit of a peace pact, but perhaps he still has the ability to put people in their place if he feels they're taking liberties.
Re: Peter Buckley
Good posts, Sean Hughes. Respect from his peers will make up for some of the ignorant comments posted on here about Peter.
300 fights is well in sight for Buckley now.
I 'd love to see some of these burks walk 200 metres in Buckley's shoes, never mind the proverbial mile.

Happened last Thursday in Wolverhampton.oliverfennell wrote: Most of his fights seem to be a bit of a peace pact, but perhaps he still has the ability to put people in their place if he feels they're taking liberties.
Scott Evans, who I think is a decent prospect, was beating Pete up for three rounds, but by the last Pete showed more a lot more guile. He stood and traded with heavy-handed Evans and landed with a couple of cracking left hands in the last minute that saw him get a good round of applause at the end.
