Boxing "re-written" History!
If boxing History could be re-written,
Who are the GREATEST unsung Hero's of ALL-TIME
each original 8 weight divisions (I know there used to be only 6)
list 3 fighters each division...

Bantam: Manuel Ortiz, Joe Beccera, Alberto Davila
Feather: Chalky Wright, Sugar Ramos, Eusebio Pedroza
Light: Ike Williams, Carlos Ortiz, Rodolfo Gonzalez
Welter: Johnny Bratton, Curtis Cokes, Carlos Palomino
Middle: Tony Zale, Randolph Turpin, Carlos Monzon
Light-heavy: Harold Johnson, Bob Foster, Victor Galindez
Heavy: Tommy Burns, Ezzard Charles, Sonny Liston
Thanks Bennie, good list I'm sure, although I confess to know nothing about most of the "wee" men mentioned.
Ortez, Wright, Ike williams I know about and I've seen Ike in action on tape (excellent).
Johnny Bratton I've read a little about and he sure has got a lot of supporters over at the CBZ.
The middleweights I completely disagree with, the greatest period in boxing history and the greatest P4P fighters,
that division at that time was JAM-PACKED with talent and in Britain alone our McAvoy and Gilroy and Ginger Sadd could have cleaned up or competed "equally" with these guys, it was an OPEN division.
I've yet to see Monzon in action and I can't remember if I ever did while in my teens.
Ezzard Charles is more aptly a light-heavyweight I would say and "1rst. class"
As for the heavies the great names are all that come to mind but what about Arturo Godoy and other consistent fighters Pastor , Bivins, Nova, no one ever talks about Lee Savold he was a good boxer, I've seen film of him, he was also a Top Performer and for YEARS, he must have had something.
And what about our own Woodcock, I honestly think he was our best heavyweight, he was a "hard-hitting" basic stand up boxer, who was ruined by "desperation" on the part of the English need of a World Heavyweight title, he was still "green", not his fault but that shouldn't take away from what he had - and he had a lot to offer (it's a shame).
Britains best for my money.
Thoughts.

Middleweight Marcel Thil rarely receives the recognition he deserves.

I'm not saying all these guys are all-time greats (though some are). I just think all of them deserve more recognition.
