Very funny...Stuart Storey said something to Michael Johnson like, 'Michael, we used to call you Superman...what do you think of Usain Bolt?'Chambers2 wrote:Fcuk'N'Ell Usain Bolt has just beat Michael Johnsons 200m world record, he ran 19.30 (Johnsons was 19.32)

I mean look how long her nails grew for a start. No seriously, as a 15 year old I always wondered how she was cut out for hand-jobs with those things.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Wasn't she married to a guy who was convicted of supplying performance enhancing drugs.Twinkle Toes wrote:Regarding Flo-Jo, I was reading that the wind meter showed zero for the 100m race, but only thirty feet away at the long jump, and at the same time the reading was 4.7.
However, the mark was submitted and ratified.
I think she eventually ended up owning something like 6 or 7 of the womens fastest 100m times.
She was never proven a cheat, and was tested numerous times during 1988, and even went on record inviting to be tested at any time.
Maybe she was just ahead of the game when it came to drug testing.
Like Johnson, Flo Jo went from a finalist in races, to beating people by 7-8 meters, it was ridiculously obvious she was done up to the nines with steroids.
It was a bleak time.
Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Whoa!
So that's what he can do when he runs to through the line? Unbe-*ucking-leivable.
They replayed his start a few times and i still can't get how he accelerates to top speed so fast with such a long stride. He doesn't shorten it in the first few steps or launch himself like Ben Johnson used to do.
His incredible leg speed/stride length is insane too. You'd expect someone with such a long stride to lope like Ed Moses used to do but no.
Simply staggering.
For anyone who missed it http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympic ... 572131.stm

He allegedly did 20.50 when he was 15. Wow.

Yes, funny her sister in law - Jackie Joyner Kersee never got the same sort of degree of bad speculation, despite equally amazing achievements.jamesmcdonnell wrote: Wasn't she married to a guy who was convicted of supplying performance enhancing drugs.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Plenty of people raised questions, most famously 800m Olympic Champ Joacquim Cruz who called Joyner-Kersee a gorilla and said Flo-Jo looked like a bloke ..... or words to that effect.stujones wrote:Yes, funny her sister in law - Jackie Joyner Kersee never got the same sort of degree of bad speculation, despite equally amazing achievements.jamesmcdonnell wrote: Wasn't she married to a guy who was convicted of supplying performance enhancing drugs.

She was married to Al Joyner, but he was never convicted of anything drug related.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

Pretty interesting read here about flo jo's death:

I tend to agree with Stu though, if Flo Jo was hammering the performance enhancing drugs then it would seem likely so was Joyner-Kersee.

Just watched the reply and was reminded of Steve Cram's quote which i enjoyed - 'I'm sorry... i don't know who came 2nd and 3rd'Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:

Cramy was a favourite of mine of the track, and he is fast becoming a favourite of mine on the mic.
The 2008 UK 100 metres championship finals was funny.... and the winner is ........ chambers (in such a down tone voice) and his "come on El Garrouj" in 2004.

Nope, i have never seen anything like that before, thet was unreal.
Re: OT- 100m spoiler
That run by Bolt makes me appreciate Michael Johnson even more, because I always got the impression he could have gone faster than his world record but took it easy more often than not. Bolt was flat out in that race the whole way.

the kelly holmes commentary has already gone into legend.
cram is perhaps the best british athlete never to win an olympic gold medal. :(

What did Kelly Holmes say at what is El Garrouj?hitman_hatton1 wrote:yeah steve is class on the mic.stujones wrote:Cramy was a favourite of mine of the track, and he is fast becoming a favourite of mine on the mic.

And her 10.49 was windy. It was set at the Yankee trials where it was windy as you like but her run registered as zero wind. Something went wrong.
I mean, with all the advances in training, nutrition knowledge, harder tracks, better clothing, and better drugs, they still can't get within a 10th of a second -- a big distance in sprinting.
but like johnson she was running amazing times.
to think the only woman sprinter in the last 20 yrs to get near those times are marion jones.
and she was a cheat.![]()
her world record of 10.49 still stands and her olympic record of 10.54.
those middle distance records in the women's still stand as well.
marita koch and that other woman with the long name holds em from the mid 80's.

That bitch had more juice than the man from Delmonte

those chinese women that still hold the long distance records as well.
ludicrous times.
i think the cheating is less rampant these days though.
although that heptathlon silver medallist look in the sh1t don't she.
Re: OT- 100m spoiler
Paula Ivan I think from the around the same time looked well dodgy and dissapeared without trace after the 1988 Olympics, she won the 1,500 metres and got Silver in 3,000 metres. The Gold medalist in the 3,000 metres in 1988 tested positive in 1993 - Yvonne Murray was Bronze.
Also feel sorry for Sonia O Sullivan who got beat by some Chinese Athletes who clearly were juicing in the world championships.
Hope Kelly Southtern gets a world championship Silver medal now based on the news today. Doubt it though, Sharon Davies never got the gold she should be entitled too now.

Kratochvilova STILL has hers.
Nobody has got close since the 1980's which is very suspicious....
The eastern block athletes were at it like nobodies business in the 1980's before testing became more rigorous.
It's amazing Seb Coe still has the second fasted time ever in the 800 meters. I do in no way think he was juicing, his father was an amazing trainer and sports scientist, who revolutionised athletics.

Re: OT- 100m spoiler
I saw a documentary before the games on female athletes from the old East Germany and apparently they were all on it as a matter of policy.
A few of these women had so much male testosterone in them that they subsequently had sex changes

Colin Jackson, Paula Ratcliffe, Liz McGolgan, Steve Backley, Steve Jones - all world record Holders who never got the gold. Jackson I think is still the third fastest man over 110 metres hurdles which shows what a remarkable athlete he was.
