Winning Multiple Golds in the pool is much easier. Others have won 7 and 6 in the pool before. The most on the track is 4. There's a good reason why Phelps could win so many Golds, 4 of his Golds were in the same distance (200), with another 3 coming in another distance (100) and 3 were relays. If Bolt could run a 200m relay, another 100m relay, another version of both 100 and 200 running, he'd be on 7 Golds, the swimmers just have too many similar events.

True. Phelps had far more opportunities - for me Bolt has been the name and face of these games. Phelps is a great Olympian but track and field will always be the Olympic centre piece.

Beating Michael Johnson's incredible 200m time, on the back of blowing away the 100m record is an unparalelled feat for me.

In swimming you also have to factor in the modern swim suits that minimise drag in the water and aid body posture/form - surely these have an input into the fact that WRs seem to get smashed at each consecutive major metting??

No I'm sorry, that is just inaccurate.

Tell me what Phelps equivalent of doing the long jump, and hurdles is?

Phelps won three of his golds in relays for a start.

Swimmers have the advantage of swimming different strokes over the same distance. Imagine if there was backwards and sideways sprinting, that's the only equivalent I can think of.

If there was a 4 x 200 sprint, then Bolt would have had another gold

Swimming records go all the time, and it's quite common for a single swimmer to win many world records, because essentially if you are fast over 200 at breaststroke, you will be fast at freestyle and backstroke.

agree with that.

if u can swim u can swim.

doing different strokes is nothing special.

but doing different distances in track and field is much more difficult.

if your a good sprinter ya not necessarily gonna be a good 800m man.

much much tougher in track and field to excel at multiple disciplines.

Theres more chance of Injury with what Bolt Achieved in the taining for the event Througth Gravity causing impact at elite running than Phelps could get in a Lifetime of swimming, get and understand the concept of what Bolt did.
