Bell doesn't deserve a British title shot. Voluntary defences for the British and European titles have become a joke. The manner of Appleby's win against John Simpson didn't suggest he's going much further but it was still a credible win for the young Scot against a seasoned professional on a fine run of form.

Not a contradiction at all. It was a struggle for Appleby throughout, he lacked consistency, variety and authority in his work and looked tired down the stretch. That he gritted it out against a seasoned domestic level operator spoke volumes about Appleby's ability to grind out a result but the absence of quality, against a guy who has found his level, also suggested that Appleby has indeed found his.teddy007 wrote:Brian Moore wrote:Bell doesn't deserve a British title shot. Bit of a contradiction "The manner of Appleby's win against John Simpson didn't suggest he's going much further but it was still a credible win for the young Scot against a seasoned professional on a fine run of form" that to me means he beat a good seasoned professional and is learning all the time and may be able to move on to bigger things.
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
Appleby is still a baby, the fact that he beat a seasoned domestic level operator over 12 so soon into his career said enough for me. Not saying he'll definitely rise much further but it's a bit too soon to be writing him off no?

I would like to see Appleby vs Simpson 2 - it was very close, and I think both could have performed better. Wasn't it a somewhat dodgy KD that gave Appleby the title? Not saying the ref wasn't wrong, but it really was more a balance thing.
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
Appleby has reached his level. Might even lose to Steve Bellteddy007 wrote:I have read on numerous websites that this fight is going to happen in November, what are you opinions? In mine Appleby needs to handle a guy like Bell easy if he wants to move on to bigger and better things. Bell is more interested in acting than boxing and he's not that good at either.
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
Feck that - the KD was legit and a decent shot. I also had it wider than the judges for Appleby.

I thought Martin Lindsey was next in line?

i wouldnt write bell off in this fight
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
It's now or never for Bell IMO. Nice boxer, just seems to be lacking in a couple of areas at this level. Should be a decent match between two skilled boxers.
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
If this happens then when will Lindsay get his shot?
Re: Paul Appleby v Steve Bell for the londsdale belt
Lindsay get his short next year he only just won the elimnator
