There were some good action last night and today´s quarter-finals will be very interesting. The americans had some good bouts. I was impressed both by Luis Arias and specially Errol Spence who turned out to be one of the favorites now. However the 69 kg has plenty of good boxers like the romanian (me favorite right now for gold), the uzbek, Oscar Molina (who fought a very good Austrian in a bout with ridiculous home scoring) and also a very good indian. In 64 kg I saw a very good russian and the german, one of the best P4P boxers for now.
Luis Arias looked good but will meet a good czech boxer today and I´d favor both the russian and the cuban over him right now.
They´re saying the kazakh at 60 kg is something special but I´ve not seen enough of him yet.

Yes, Mel the americans are way too slow on their feet. They can´t cut off the ring against fast movers. Often they advance with their back foot first. They also have very bad balance when they go forward punching. They are always off balance after punching. There is a huge difference with the cuban boxers for example. You can clearly see the difference in (lack of) schooling. The cubans (and russians, kazakh, etc) go in and out punching with perfect balance while the americans get off balance all the time. They also put too much force in their punches which makes them miss wildly and they get countered with cheap punches. I have seen the americans in training and competitions many times and I believe they focus on wrong things and don´t understand the important things they need to improve. Most american boxers a very talented and exciting to watch but they lack technical fundamentals.
It´s very interesting to see the morning trainings of the teams and in the warm-up area before the bouts. You see so many different methods and ideologies. However you need only one minute to see why the cubans, russians, kazakhs are better than the others.
Bottom line is there are still plenty of corrupt officials and they need to get rid of them. They have gotten slicker now and aren't so blatantly obvious. I used to say that a blind man could see who was cheating under Chowdhry.
