Joe should STFU, Joe wishes he was even in the same universe in terms of talent with Roy.

Funny enough I heard a about a year ago Joe saying when asked is their anyone he wouldn't want to fight he said Roy Jones because he's so hard to hit, this was from his own mouth.

I like Calzaghe, but he does go way over the top when evaluating himself, and what he has achieved.

Sheesh!

I like Joe Calzaghe, I think he has good head movement, fast hand and hits hard. That with a pretty good killer instinct says that he is a great fighter. I think he would trouble anybody around his weight, i.e. Midle to light heavy, it is a shame that he is managed by Warren, who has not secured the best fights for him, but I think you are all being a little ridiculous when you question his quality, he fought good fighters as well as bad, but who hasn't, After he stops Johnson he will hopefully go on to knock out Tarver, as long as Taver doesn't join everyone else in the Heavyweights.

Feel free to blast me now

Well he can't feast on Ottke's leftovers anymore.
So if he doesn't go for the big fights immediately after Johnson..Then he never will.
Tocker Pudwill will probably get a rematch

bugs I have to say mate JC has fought no one of the top echelon.
Eubank was on the decline and the rest of the time he has correctly stated here taken on ottke cast offslook at the two records and see how many names there are that have first been taken on by sven.

The fight with Glencoffe is by far his toughest for some time if not the toughest period.
If he comes through that then he can start talking. Til then he should concentrate on training and do his talking in the ring.
He doesnt do himself any favours by slating someone who has acheived 10 times what he will ever achieve just cos he recently lost. (RJJ and I cant stand Jones but you cant deny his quality over the past years)

Joe Calzaghe should obtain a contaminated waste transfer licence before opening his mouth.

He talks so much shit.

Well I dont know who you want him to fight, he offered Ottke a million pounds to fight him in Germany. And he is head and shoulders above Ottke anyway. He offered a similar amount of money to Hopkins and was turned down. Mundine said he would not fight him until he had a few defenses under his belt (that worked out!). He fought Mitchell, he fought Reid, Woodhall, McIntyre, Sheika, Starie and Eubank. What exactly has he got to do? Beyer, Green? I think that anyone he beats that is not Toney, Hopkins or Jones, he is going to get slated for poor quality opposition. Viet was supposed to be great 30-0 record, number one contender and Joe destroyed him. Mitchell was the best thing in the division according to some people (and only lost previous fights coz he got robbed) and Joe stopped him, despite looking so bad Pudwill was still being hyped by Fightnews.com for his last fight, and I think Eubank went on to get a cruiserweight medal after losing to Joe.
Two of those guys beat Ottke IMO (Reid and Starie) Sheika beat Johnson.

Also Thornberry, Starie and Reid all fought Ottke AFTER they fought Joe, so whose hand me downs were they?

You just rip joe coz he is a Warren man, but he has probably fouhgt as many good guys as RJJ, and been ducked by more.

For anyone who read that and was fazed by my unbiased report, I am a Calzaghe fan. :D

Edit: Forgot to mention Woodhall beat Cately, Malinga, Branco and had a very close fight with Beyer.

Stupid comment by Calzaghe, we all know he doesn't believe that himself.

But he IS stepping up against Johnson, a man with no glaring weakness. He said he wanted a genuine fight and he's got one. I for one will get off his back for a while.

I agree Kilburn. Bugs you are looking at it through rose tinted specs mate just in my opinion, Calzaghe never really chased Hopkins any more than Hatton has chased mitchell.

As for ottke he should have fought him in germany if necessary he reckons he is head and shoulders above so the judges shouldnt have been needed. Its only backing up his mouth with actions.

He would have got beaten up anyway by Nard and why should hopkins move up a weight anyway? Was never gonna happen.

I have no problems with Calzaghe at all, I think he could be one of the best form these isles but please dont think that he hasnt been protected and fought ottke cast offs on ocasion, cos he has.
Having said that (and remaining consistent to my posts) Glen Johnson is his toughest test yet at light heavy, should be appluaded and if he wins that and goes on to beat Tarver I for one will be campaigning to have him included in p4p lists. But at present he should shut up cos he hasnt done anything to warrant being put on those lists yet.

its not the talent but the fact he hasnt proved it in the ring yet. Also the bullshit we are fed about him being scared of flying then he is on tv in america ringside at de la hoya / mosely how did he get there swim????....i dont like being bullshitted.

Fair enough buddy?

I understand what you are saying, but I disagree with the assertion that it is Calzaghe's fault, I think he has been seeking out the defining fights for a couple of years, but they have remained elusive.

I still wonder who it is you wish he would fight? It was clear that Joe would go to Germany to fight Ottke and pay Ottke a million pounds. He offered to Fight Ottke in Germany, it was Ottke who was ducking ?Joe, not vice versa.

Why do you think Johnson is so tought, but not Sheika?

Err, perhaps because Sheika is a limited banger with poor technique, no defence, and an iffy chin?

That not my take mate, ottke didnt want to fight Joe that was plain but Joe shouldnt have said "ill fight him anywhere" then not gone to gemrany to do it, he should have made ottke fight him for the belts that weas his reward not the money.
Made ottke an offer he couldnt refuse. If you say you will do that then you should do it.
Liek I say have no gripe with JC think he is fantastic but he still is unproven in the ring for me. We wil see against Johnson though....thats a tough fight and kudos to Joe for taking it on.

If getitng put down by mitchell and getitng off the floor to win makes you p4p top ten (as joe would have us believe) then shit Ive got a chance.

Yes, excellent point. And excellent knowledge. However, the Sheika loss suffered by Johnson really was a blatant robbery in Sheika's Philadelphia base. I'm starting to wonder whether the cute Johnson might be able to shock Calzaghe on June 12, given the Welshman's recent late night workouts.

I was in Cardiff in February for his fight and a local girl told me that it's not just the late night work-outs where Joe's been a naughty boy. I was most disappointed.

Johnson has been robbed in at least 5 fights, and that was one of them.

That aside, Sheika and Johnson have very different styles, Sheika is tailor made for Calzaghe as he is a wild brawler with a big punch but no defence.

Johnson is a cute pressure fighter with a decent bag of tricks, good stamina and decent but not amazing punchpower.

Yeah maybe, but I think you are over-estimating Johnson, he may have been robbed, but probably no more than he was robbed against Woods in the first fight, he looks a little lethargic and two dimensional, and that was against woods! Whose middle names are lethargic and two dimensional!

I think Johnson may be a tough, but Calzaghe is a class operator and while I understand all the critisism of Hatton, I really dont get Calzaghe being lumped in the same boat. And in reply to multiple entries above, Calzaghe said he would go to Germany to fight Ottke.

Still however anyone thinks, I am really looking forward to the fight on the 12th, although I am watching it with siblings who are not boxing fans, usually I would be with my armchair boxing clique:o)

Calzaghe looked better than ever in his last fight, for sure (Mkrtchian). I've been hearing a few reports of Joe's after-fight activities in and around Cardiff, but they haven't affected his career to date. Every time Joe has been tested (Delaney, Eubank, Mitchell, Reid), he's come through.
Should be a great fight.

From what I hear from American contacts, Johnson was totally shafted against Sheika. I also think he clearly beat Woods in the first fight.

A friend of Clinton Woods' told me at the Carl Thompson fight, that Woods admitted himself in the dressing room after the fight that Johnson should have gotten a clear decision, and that tells you something.

Johnson was smart in the rematch, showed all his experience. He jumped on Woods and hurt the lanky Sheffield man in the second round, then never let him recover.
This guy has only been stopped by one opponent in 51 hard fights - in 11 tough rounds to Bernard Hopkins. Calzaghe won't blow him out like he did Byron Mitchell.

Typical comment from this fringe 'world champion'. I think he believes his own hype. He dropped another belter after the DLH-Mosley 2 fight, which I can't seem to find in the boxing-central archives or on the bbc site.

EDIT: found the quote!

"I see myself as good as him. I am undefeated. I'd never been knocked down in my life before Mitchell; Oscar's been down, he's even been beaten twice (now three times). Yet he gets paid $11-million to fight Yory Boy Campas, who's a washed-up has-been. If I fought somebody like that, I'd get slaughtered for it. That's what frustrates me."
