Who should Joe Calzaghe fight next?

Hopkins is still a top 10 P4P fighter, a second more convincing win over him would be worth a lot to Calzaghe's record.

Dawson - Decent fighter, nothing more, nothing to gain for Joe, pointless fight

Dawson has beaten Adamek and Tarver, and should really be the unified WBC and IBF champion, instead of just the IBF chmpion. A win over him would really show Calzaghe's worth at Light Heavyweight.

Zsolt Erdei - Joke post surely?

Beating Erdei would give him the linear and WBO titles. Since Joe held the WBO title for so long at Super Middleweight, it would seem odd if he never fought for it at Light Heavyweight. Also the linear title is a very significant title to win.

Carl Froch - Equally as much a joke as Erdei, never beaten anyone, never faught anyone, brings nothing to the table, next...

Carl Froch is an unbeaten British puncher, if he beats Pascal he will be the WBC Super Middleweight champion. There would be a lot of hype surrounding this fight and it would show that Calzaghe was not afraid to take a big risk.


According to you any opponent he fights from now on is pointless. All of the other fighters on the list that you have dismissed would also add to Calzaghe's reume.

Let the guy retire. He beat the best LHW on a close decision in a fight that was less interesting than a one card game of poker. Froch isn't even proven world class yet. The logical step up for Dawson is Hopkins. Erdei isn't even in the top 5 at 175.

Some people think Hopkins won. The fight was close enough to warrant a rematch even if everyone will complain about it not being an action fight.

I can understand people moaning about it not being an exciting fight, but I think Bernard would adopt a different approach the second time around. I'd expect Hopkins to at least try to press the action more-so than was the case last April.

Calzaghe knows Hookins took him to the wire (I thought Hopkins won) & that's why I feel there won't be a rematch. Calzaghe may be at the end of his career or very near it, so losing will not be an option for him. I really want to see Hopkins-Calzaghe 2, but I just cannot see Joe granting the rematch!

I think you just answered your question about legacy, but the difference between Pavlik and JC is that JC moves about ten times more and can box. He doesn't rely on power.

Hopkins outboxed Pavlik, we've already seen that he couldn't do that with Calzaghe.

Neither of them shone that night, but Calzaghe nicked it. How so many can think Hopkins' negative tactics won him that fight I will never know.

Fully agreed.

I chose Chad Dawson for the poll. I think Calzaghe would win a comfortable decision against him. Dawson's rated quite highly by most Americans after his win over Tarver. My overall preference is for Calzaghe to retire.
