Re: Who has the most padded record in Australia.
I agree to an extent, he's 21 he fights more often than most, but he has a win against Ryan Langham 9-0 and shane kelly 8-2,and heres the most important bit, those two fighters were destroyed and have not fought since.Marlin wrote:In 16 starts to date Zappa has only fought 3 blokes with a winning record...

For eff sake do these promoters or trainers have a clue, or are we going to keep playing that card that it's hard to get international fighters to travel, or the fighters want too much money. Take ownership, you either cant put a decent card together or your squeezing the sport for every penny, or to put it simply your not the person for the job.
I could go through all the boxers in the world or even Australia and put together a good and exciting card every week, no need for 3 or 4 shit ones, cause thats whats effing the sport up here, if you have problems promoters, with your fighters getting in the ring with another good fighter, tell them to fuckoff and take up tickling, someone else will take thier place, if an international fighter wants more than the Australian fighter give him more money, because your usuall outcome for this is replacing him with Paz Veijo and the like....... guess what me and my mates laugh our ass's off when Paz fights ,works on his own swelling and dipenses his own water to himself while barking orders at his cornerman, it's good for laugh but that's all it is.
If people in the sport say i dont know what i'm talking about, it's not that easy, easier said than done or even have a crack at my knowllege of the sport thats fine... really.
But i would love the chance to show people my experience in running a business and how 1 good card a week will make you 20 times the amount of money your currently making than the four shit cards they put together and the pennys they count at the end of a disappointed week for all.
I'm a massive fan of the sport, and love Australian fighters and want to see them succeed, but at the moment this business(boxing) is selling a faulty product to a bunch of dissatified customers and honestly it's heart breaking....... effing heart breaking.
You say you "But i would love the chance to show people my experience in running a business and how 1 good card a week will make you 20 times the amount of money your currently making than the four shit cards they put together and the pennys they count at the end of a disappointed week for all"

If you search for the threads i've started you will come across a few international cards i proposed like an ashes series to be held yearly, an Australia v Asia, Australia v Pacific nations ect. Just some ideas to get boxing back on TV and interest to the casual boxing fan.
I will come up with a few new cards soon.
I hear you about cards but you gotta start somewhere, so when and where would you do the first show? aand who is on the card?
I did Australia Vs Thailand 30th May this year which was huge - biggest fight night in Cairns, had amateur boxing under card, and pro myai thai fights bought 2 fighters and a trainer out from casa mui
When you say you will come up with a new card/s soon, do you mean you will make suggestions about what figts you would like to see happen or are you going to put on a show and make fights?

Well Ross the truth is i'm not a promoter, i realise in any business you need contacts, and the truth of it is i only know about 3 current boxers, and about 3 retired ones, and that isn't going to put a card together for me.
However in the near future i will be more active in boxing circles, and need to be around the scene alot more, as i have been running my own business in more recent times. So i guess at this point it's speculation, however i do know what i want in a card, and i feel as though i know what the experts want and i think to draw more fans back to the sport you need to create buzz.
Ross when was the last time you seen a fight that was advertised on tv and i'm not including the ads shown to 1 million subscriptions of pay tv?
For the record there' 21 Million in Australia, so boxing targets less than 5% of the target audience Australia wide.
Now sports fans are sports fans it doesn't matter the sport, it's the buzz surounding it, if you can guarentee the level of competition is first class, you'll fill seats, and people will walk away wanting more. Now in Australia we love our sport and we compete to be the best, and usually succeed, so why are the people behind boxing in this country content on showcasing talent vs Bum. I realise every ones interpretation of a bum is different but let me tell you why i can't convince the novice fan to come to the boxing, because it's usually 1 guy fighting and the other trying to survive until the third round to get his cheque, no one wants to see this.
Ross i'm a Queenslander and grew up on the stories of when fights took place at Festival Hall Brisbane, and how you couldn't move because it was packed, and the fistic fury got people on the feet, so thats where i would start, the 40 or 50 somethings i think would flock back to Festival Hall to see evenly matched cards.
Without advertising exposure on network TV this probally wouldn't happen, as there would be no sponsers, not enough money to pay the fighters or the promise to fighters of more media exposure. The idea of bigger sponsers in boxing is needed as it fills the bank balance of most athelete' today, allowing promoters ect to spend there money more economically.
1 fight card a week and a roadshow type setup based on the origin of the boxer' this week Brisbane, cairns or the Goldcoast, next it's Sydney, Newcastle or canberra, but the most important thing is it needs to be televised shown the best of what we have,or the best here vs the best of what Japan,USA or England ect has to offer.
Card1 would include a middleweight exhibition with a heavyweight contest.
Fighters would include Geale,Pittman, medley,Singh,Taliepai and co and could even be staged as a round robin event where the winner fights winner, loser fights loser 6weeks later on another show. Heavyweights; Big hitters like Humono, leapai and co would be showcased. These fighters are not overpriced and a good sponser could financially back the purses of such fights.
Hopefully this answered how i would approach putting a card together.
It just takes a good sales pitch to the right people.
It's 1 o'clock fuckit i'm going to bed.
Edit; Sorry mate, congratulations on your card.

Green fought a lot of world rated fighters, including several champions. You can't fight a World Champion in every fight. He took the WBA Light heavyweight title from Stipe Drews, who went into the ring with a 32-1 record. Green's win shocked a lot of people from overseas.

Well said Brute
Re: Who has the most padded record in Australia.
Yeah they still can't believe they let Drews come down under instead of fighting in europe where Drews would have been given the decision unanimouslyBrute wrote:convict wrote:Danny Green had a padded record. Why is no one saying anything about that?.

Re: Who has the most padded record in Australia.
To all who criticize boxing, so you dont like boxing? How many fights did you have? What titles did you win? Do you know what it feels like to have a broken nose? Busted ear drum? Broken ribs? I've been there, it is the damn hardest sport of all. It is my passion. If you dont like boxing.. thats too bad.
Re: Who has the most padded record in Australia.
Mario, i think most bother posting here because they like the sport. I think i understand what you are getting at but as long as people pay to see fighters they will discuss them. For better or worse, these discussions help keep the sport in peoples minds.
