Herbie Hide was offered the fight, he received the contracts which he agreed to as did his Promoter, although hadn't signed them. He called the Board and accepted the fight and told all that would listen what he was going to do to Enzo Maccarinelli. he even contacted and assured Robert Smith, Dean Powell and Andy Ayling that he wanted this fight and was happy to get the chance. He was told to go and get a weight check and had an appointment made for him in London to have this done - Job done, or so it was thought.

However, since then no one has seen or heard from Herbie Hide...He's disappeared and his phones constantly off - Hide has well and truely hidden.

So there you have it, check every Cruiserweight in the top 15 and see if they were contacted and they will all confirm they were.

Nextt hing you'll be blaming Warren for Bank's Ankle, Cooks Flu, Fosters Car Crash and Bendalls virus....it's all down to him isn't it!

You lot need to get a grip and learn a little of what you discuss. Billy Bessey should know better too, he's supposed to be a fighter and should appreciate injuries. His comments were stupid and
prhaps if he didn't come on here and slag of Promoters he might find he would earn a decent living instead of being selected as a fall guy in prizefighter.

Hennessy has had pull out as has every promter in the Country and proably every sport in the country it's/they are a fact of life so get over it. I wonder if Manchester United get all this shot when fans turn up and Rooney or Ronaldo aren't playing after sustaining an injury. I doubt it.
Given the number of pull outs for this bill, the DECENT thing would have been to reschedule for next year.

Sometimes the best thing is silence, if a fight cannot be delivered - I mean even if Cook/Foster were both fit - was the satisfactory, considering Marco Antonio Barrera was being "discussed" for the next defence of the Cook vs Arthur winner. Foster is a world of difference, unless it was just awaiting the dotting of I's and crossing of t's why mention Barrera.

I am not blaming Warren for the pullouts, but I am a little bit concerned at the last minute nature of the Banks withdrawal - why wasn't he in the country? Its not like he is a joke fight he has a highly respected trainer who would know about jet lag and the like.

Yes, Hennessey, Maloney etc have had pull outs - but look what Hennessey has done on Saturday, replaced the Mutley vs O Donnell fight with a IMO more intriguing Lawton vs Gethin contest.... would Hennessey have postponed had he not delievered either Mutley vs O Donnell or Lawton vs Gethin - no he wouldn't have.... but he would have postponed had Pascal pulled out on Tuesday - as he has done in the past when it comes to the main event.

But irrespective, Henessey is not charging the arm chair fan £15.99 for this bill in which one of the main events has been completely scrapped and the other main event well has changed for the worst.

The more worrying aspect of this is what will happens with Banks now, a good dangerous boxer, will he maintain a high ranking with the WBO - will he F as likely.

Also, why didn't Banks speak to the media about the fight? There seemed to be no press about Banks whatsoever. I can't help but think this fight was never going to happen.

Edit: Just checked NewsNow. There hasn't been any info about Banks at all, until the "sprain ankle" news.

The solution is simple but will never happen.
Cancel the PPV element.
I've seen countless Wazza shows that make this bill pale into insignificance at no extra cost to the TV viewer.
Jesus - it's not as though there isn't a subscription to pay for Sky Sports for starters.

Here Here - or reduce the PPV to 9.99 or something - even if it only includes the DLH vs Pacquiao fight.

This Saturday at the ExCeL Arena in east London, Enzo Maccarinelli looks to bounce back from his two-round defeat at the hands of David Haye in their cruiserweight unification showdown last March, also in east London.
Big Enzo never got started against the heavy-handed Haye for WBC, WBA and WBO titles at the 02 Arena and was rescued smartly as Haye teed off with right hands. Something of a slow starter, Enzo consoles himself with the fact Haye has since made heavyweight his home. Plus, it wasn't one of those long, punishing defeats. The future actually looks bright for the talented, big-hitting Swansea giant, still only 28, who was on an eight-year winning run up to Haye and now takes on Puerto Rican substitute Francisco Alvarez for the WBO title made vacant by Haye.
Maccarinelli was due to face unbeaten American Jonathon Banks for the vacant title, but Banks pulled out a few days ago with an ankle injury and a whole host of opponents have been proposed for the Welshman since, from Clinton Woods to Herbie Hide. Hey! Even Emile Griffith may have got a mention. He still wants revenge over a Brit for the Minter thing and has filled out nicely.
In the event the little-known Alvarez takes the money, an inexperienced but fast-starting fighter who has won eight of his 12 fights inside three rounds and lost just the once: to dangerous and unbeaten Russian cruiserweight Alexander Alexeev in four rounds last year. That was actually in Puerto Rico, and the suitably humbled Alvarez has since chanced his arm at light-heavyweight, although this smacks of a better chance for redemption. Anyway, he is 31 but a long-time amateur and a tad more seasoned than his 12 fights suggest. He got in eight timely rounds with a decision over someone called Victor Paz in October.
No matter. Maccarinelli just looks too big, too quick, too powerful for him.

And he is also in the mix for the WBC title against the far less dangerous Fragomeni. Fragomeni has travelled before. Hide has an eliminator first, if his opponent pulls out a few times - expect a straight shot.

Bendall has a virus? This is the first i have heard of this. It would be noble if allegedly.tv were to mention such things as and when it becomes known?

Fair enough, it can be unfortunate when fighters drop out through various causes- but as others have mention, why not have standby fighters or standby fighters?

Boxingchat, I've got one genuine question in the wake of your response (which does have some valid points):
There's an old cliche that failing to plan is planning for failure. And given you/allegedly have prior experience of situations where shows can be badly damaged by a range of 'pull-outs', why do you not have a more efficient structure in place to deal with this scenario?
Those of us in business know there are occasions you simply can't legislate for, but equally, if there is a recurring situation that causes you problems you implement measures to ensure damage limitation at the very least.
For example, in the case of Enzo, why didn't you have a substitute lined up weeks in advance and with a fully signed contract so that if in the event that Banks dropped out, there was no need for a last-minute scrabble round as you'd planned for this potential eventuality and could just smoothly roll out the sub?
I'm sorry, but all the excuses start to sound a bit tired and lame given we've all been here so many times before. It's not a new situation so not having mechanisms in place to deal with it borders on the unacceptable... unless you can convince me otherwise.

I give it 2 rounds. I won't be paying for it.

Its no good saying how many people have been offered the fight, if they've not been offered enough money they won't take it.

Couldn't believe it when I read this from fightnews:

"New Maccarinelli foe named!

Thursday, December 4 2008

Enzo Maccarinelli will now meet WBO #15 lightweight Francisco Alvarez (11-1, 9 KOs) for the vacant WBO cruiserweight title at London's ExCel Arena on Saturday. Maccarinelli was originally slated to face #1 Johnathon Banks, but Banks pulled out with an injury. There was talk of Maccarinelli facing former WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide, but the little known Alvarez got the nod."

Honestly Frank........we knew you were going to give Enzo a chump but a 12 fight novice coming up 7 weight classes is ludicrous for even you!

Well at least this solves one quandary for me on Saturday. My box will be sticking on ITV come main event time.
What an unbelievably shit opponent. No doubt a result of Frank's old lowering the rope ladders from his helicopter while hovering over a South American prison yard trick. The mind boggles at the kind of pugs he kicked off before pulling up this mug! :-?

So its more or less for certain Macca gets his belt back. I wont be watching thats for sure. I shall be watching Froch on ITV. This PPV is the biggest piss take ever, even more so than the last. Oscar v Manny and the British bill would just be Sky 1 if you took Khan out of the equasion. I really dont know how Khan can still be demanding the big money after such a bad loss to a guy he should have beaten. Khan is damaged goods so why is FW putting on a PPV show just so he can pay Khan. In a nutshell if you buy this event you are paying to see Khan and the rest is for free and just a bonus. Its time to say bollox to Khan and PPV its a rediculous situation. If he was fighting for a world title against Pacman then maybe the PPV could be justified but defending his Commonwealth title against Fagin is a joke. FW finding fighters Khan should beat easily has to stop and so does the PPV.

Boxrec have this listed as a non title fight funnily enough.

I think the WBO may step in, even for them this would be a bit of a joke of a World title fight.
