If true Oscar is the biggest SOB in boxing:
Pacquiao weirded by weigh-in difference
12/06/2008 | 05:34 PM
MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao was sure he was at 146 pounds for the final weigh-in.
So it surprised him to see he came out four pounds lighter.
Pacquiao tipped the scales at 142 pounds, way off the weight he and his team were expecting.
"Yes, a little bit of a surprise. Seems the scale got calibrated," Freddie Roach told Manila-based journalists inside the press room on Friday after the weigh-in.
Shortly after the weigh-in, Pacquiao went back to his room and used a different scale. He came in at 145.5 pounds, the same weight he had in the morning after breakfast, according to Roach.
Pacquiao was amazed at the difference, disclosing the night before and just an hour before the official weigh-in that he both checked in at 146 pounds.
"I didn't do anything to reduce weight, so I don't know why I came in at 142?" Pacquiao said. "It's hard to be suspicious but as you can see, there's a difference between how I weighed out there and here."
Pacquiao said if there was a four-pound difference between his two "weigh-ins", it could be the same for de la Hoya. "So does that mean Oscar was at 149 pounds?"
A clause in the contracts signed by both Pacquiao and de la Hoya will have de la Hoya paying a $3-million penalty for every excess pound over 147 pounds.
Pacquiao said he didn't want to make a big deal out of the situation. "I don't want to make that an excuse for whatever happens."
Roach agreed.
"Maybe the scale … I'm not sure. But I'm not accusing anything (sic)," said Roach, who incidentally, also got a positive response from the Nevada State Athletic Commission later in the day, allowing the use of one-inch tape for the boxer's hands instead of two inches.
"But it really doesn't matter to me," he added. "The fight's on. The fight's here."

Re: DLH 145, Pac 142
I'm sticking with my prediction of a UD for Manny. I feel slightly more confident after he weighed in at 142, as he should retain his speed. Oscar, on the other hand, has a bit of a dilemma: either he enters the ring not much above 145 in an attempt to match Pac's speed, but risks being weakened down the stretch; or he gains a stone overnight in order to have the strength advantage, but is sluggish throughout.
Re: DLH 145, Pac 142
Yeah, i'm surprised to see him in the photo above aswell. Looks like he is deadly serious about fighting the winner......... for his sake i hope its not De La Hoya!E wrote:Didn't know Hatton was going to be atthe weigh in...
Looks like De La Hoya may have cheated on the scales. I really hope that is not the case and that team Paqiou are just playing mind games. Pac Man is already at such a disadvantage, if De La Hoya really has just got away with sneeking on an extra 2lbs over the 147 limit, then the pendulam swings even more in his favour, and thats the last thing this fight needs!

Oscar will be too big. Oscar by KO - it will be like a school bully beating up a boy 2 years younger than him.
Re: DLH 145, Pac 142
There would have to be quite a lot of people in on it, I would have thought. Pac was seen weighing just 141 on the final 24/7, so I would have thought 142 would be accurate.
Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
I really think there might have been some shenanigans with the scales. According to Pacquiao, he weighed himself on the official scales, and then immediately after on his own scales, on Thursday, and on both scales he weighed 149, suggesting that both matched.
Yet, on the day of the weigh-in, he was 146 on his scales, then 142 on the official scales, then 146 on his own scales again.
If true, this is a disgrace. I'm surprised Roach didn't insist on the scales being recalibrated, or looked at.

Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
Roach has gone a little bit down in my estimation in the build up to this, he has been full of mouth the whole of the build up, which is so very unlike him.
Roach was there at the weigh in, why didn't he make a song and dance AT THE TIME of official weigh in. He didn't look surprised at Pac Man's weight and he looked well like "oh shit he's made it comfortably" when DLH weighed. He was checking the calloboration like a hawk.
edit: Jim Watt said post the weigh in on the Sky show - that Roach predicted Pac Man would weigh 10 stone 2.... which is what he weighed.

Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
Now I know the cynic in us all of us will doubt this, but thinking about it, in the third episode of 24/7 the shot of De La Hoya weighing 147.9 on an electronic scale only showed the shoulder and arm, and it cut to the shot. On the other hand maybe it's just excuses.

Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
De La Hoya by KO, could come early but i reckon between the 4th and 6th.
I'll be cheering for Pacquio though, i'd like to see the little guy prevail. De La Hoya's taking liberties by fighting Pacquio and i'm not impressed. Should he win, no way will he be deserving of the P4P #1 spot, thats just nonsense!

I reckon Oscar KO too, and quite an early one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Oscar take Manny out with a single-shot. I will be very surprised to see this as competitive - it's got "mis-match" wrote all over it. I just hope it's not too disappointing.

Delahoya looks huge next to Pacman, I'm think Pac may get KO'd
Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
De La Hoya TKO round 7
Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
I've got a strong opinion on most things and it's probably safer to bet on the bigger man, but I just can't pick this fight.

I think De La Hoya TKO. Its amazing how this fight has turned from a freak show to a fight which many people cant decide the winner.
Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
I wan't Pac to win because I feel he's the underdog here and I do think the size is gonna be a big factor. Unfortunately I think it's got DLH KO written all over it - hope Im wrong!

Its funny,as has been said, how opinions change near fight time.
I think now,the same as i thought when the fight was announced,DLH in 8 or 9.
I'm usually wrong mind...

I believe Pacman will fight and set a pace like a man possessed to take a unanimous decision, only in the last 4 rounds will Oscar look like winning but Pac guts it out to win.

Well Oscar obviously did something wrong making weight, but no matter, Manny was so good, would have been a much closer fight if Oscar had been nearer his peak, but he went that bit too far, like Leonard against Norris. So nasty to see Osvar brutalised, but full credit to manny for making him grow old.
Suddenly Pacquiao against Hatton looks a fair fight, close one, but Hattton will come in much stronger. Lets see what happens, but it doesn't seem like a mismatch

Re: De La Hoya vs Pacquiao FINAL BOXREC PREDICTIONS
What a dreadful, supine performance by DLH. He didn't do anything. Pacquiao looked superb, yes, but for the last three rounds DLH just stood and let himself get beaten up.
I have said more than once this week that Pacquaio is the best offensive boxer of our generation, and will be remembered one day alongside the Durans and the Pryors of this world, but deary me DLH was little more than a punch bag. He had nothing.
All week my boxing/drinking partner Vladislav has been repeating rumours from the Russian boxing scene that DLH would let Pacquiao win. I could never ascertain the motivation for this, and told Vlad I thought it was garbage, but DeLa Hoya's performance was so bad he almost looked as if he did go into the tank.
Obviously, though, the truth was that he got old, and the weight was an issue for him. But, Jesus, even Roy Jones showed a bit of heart to make it to the end.
Sad to see him getting beaten up, but for a guy who has fought an unimpeachable array of talent through his career, and has shown tremendous heart on many occasions, that was a pitiable way to draw the curtain.

The signs were all there form the Forbes fight, the timing had gone then against a smaller bloke.
