Great show. Like Brian 13 I think it's great the way he doesn't pretend fights don't exist, just because his employers are not covering it.

Yeah its a great show. My dad is 71 and a lifelong boxing fan and he tunes every week like clockwork. He says its the best boxing show he can remember. I thought the ludicrous build up to the Warren PPV bill showed Sky up for the head in the sand bunch of tits they are. Banging on about Macca's comeback being tough when he never even had an opponent. Piper would have as well have had a downward arrow in neon lights flashing behind him giving a price for how much his sell-out arse is worth. Shame on him. Usually McCrory will tell it like it is and not sugar coat it but he even shut up on that one.

Wish he wouldn't bash the yanks so much, or at least play it less poisonously.

Why?

Because Calzaghe has fought loads of relatively unproven boxers before.

Simple as that.
And Froch hasn't fought lots of unknown boxers. Before Pascal, who was hardly a household name, his biggest wins were over a washed-up Robin Reid and Brian Magee.
He beat Damon Hague for the British title and had lots of dubious Commonwealth title defences. In Boxrec's ratings, Pascal wasn't in the top 20 before the fight and Froch is below Sakio Bika now. Obviously, theose aren't gospel, but lets not pretend that at 31 Froch has been beating contender after contender. He's a got a cheek to badmouth Manfredo and the fight Tatevosyean.

I think Froch last week was exciting. But he gambled on outlasting Pascal, because the Canadian had been out of the ring for a year and they didn't believe he could last. He looked worryingly open, though.
And what has any of this got to do with my point? Even if Froch is 'unproven', past history shows this quality does not deter Joe Calzaghe from boxing someone.

Despite the sh*t Bunce has received on this forum and others he has succeeded in shouting from the rooftops about the great sport of boxing - personally I do not give a sh*t what his presentation skills are like!!! - I know for a fact Bunce is one of those personalities who is prepared to say unpopular things when needed - he has campaigned tirelessly on the Sky, BBC and now at Setanta and it is partly down to his vigour, personality and enthuisasm someone at Setanta has ploughed one awful lot of money behind boxing and for that evey single boxing fan should thank him!!!

Carry on the good work Buncey :TU:

If you use iTunes you can subscribe to the podcast so will be automatically added to your computer and iPod.

Got to say I really enjoy the podcast more than watching the show. Not seeing Bunce clown around with his co-host and the poor production of the show is great as it allows me to concentrate on what is being said and the interviews.

Really?

Right - how many fighters, since Calzaghe became world champion, has he taken on who are undoubtedly WORSE than Carl Froch, in terms of ability and profile?
sorry, it has taken me a few days to see this response

not so long ago, i'd agree with you.....and i was voicing the same argument when Hatton similarly dismissed Witter

but this situation is different, because Calzaghe isn't considering delaying his retirement to fight 'Kid Fire' Mcintyre, Tocker Pudwill, or Miguel Jimenez....if Calzaghe doesn't quit....the opponent is likely to be Chad Dawson.....whose wins vs Thomas Adamek, Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver trump Froch's victory two weekends ago.

Froch is also insisting that the fight couldn't happen at light-heavyweight.....so in order for the fight to happen, it is Calzaghe who is expected to make the sacrifice.......i'd of thought super-confident Froch, super-keen on getting Calzaghe in the ring, would not let the issue of a few lbs get in the way of a clash.....it is not like Calzaghe is a big light-heavyweight anyway

Another Excellent show from Andy Kerr and his balding mate yesterday!

Interesting to hear that Haye VS Vitali will be going out at UK primetime, not US primetime :D

Adam Booths description of what happened when Haye and Vitali met was piss funny. Supposedly they were all sat round a table discussing the finer details of the fight, whilst Haye was sitting there with a cheeky smirk on his face. Haye throws the GQ pics of Haye with Wlads head in his hand towards Vitali. Booth said Vitali looked at the pic gobsmacked, then looked at Haye, then looked at the pic, then all the furniture started moving  and Vitali tried to manhandle 'The Gifted One' :shame:

What I thought was interesting about yesterdays show was everyones top 3 highlights of 2008.

After the last week or so there's been a lot of Calzaghe bashing (more so than usual) after his recent comments on the sport, yet nearly every fighter that called into the show said their fav highlight was Joe's achievements this year. I just thought it was quite interesting the difference from a fighters point of view compared to a fans point of view, and I agree, people/fans went way over the top with his statement. In my view people who hate Joe were just waiting for him to say something remotely stupid/controversial just so they could air him out.

yep, good news although it figures. HBO have shown little interest in Haye, preferring to push Arreola forward as a contender to either one of the Klitschkos

The two markets that this fight is so big in, are of course the British and German.....that is how most of the money will be generated, and thus the fight time will be made to suit them and not the HBO audience, who have not been used to watching Klitschko fights at primetime anyway

If the yanks are relying on Arreola jeez. He's from a long line of.....Guinn, Grant, Chambers etc.

However he brings a hispanic angle I believe so hardly surprising the networks are prematurely wetting themselves.

HBO are idiots. Vitali Haye will be a great fight much better than I think Arreola Wladimir will be. I'm sure they could get the rights for the Haye fight cheap as well, much better value for money Tarver Dawson or Taylor Wright.

Buncey made me chuckle the other night. He started talking about Arreola-Witherspoon and claiming it was stopped too early when the cornermen scaled the apron, Chazz was well in the fight etc etc and I was a little confused why he was mentioning this fight and especially why he was taking that line on matters (despite what anyone says now, personally I only ever saw Chazz getting destroyed in there).

Then all became clear as the presenter introduced our next guest on the show...Chazz Witherspoon :D :TU:

Bunce is and will always be a colour guy. Great knowledge of the fights and much of the history. But he will suck arse when it suits him and/or turn the knife in that gentlle 'I'm a clown what do I know, give me a fool's pardon' sort of way. Sneaky fecker.

I Like the show though and he is one of those guys you'd miss if he wasn't around. Clever sneaky fecker. :TU:
