Why wouldn't you? We're in NC this year, but I expect to see some good work from everywhere. Justin DeLoach is my man, not sure what weight he's boxing this year and I also like Tim Montgomery. I'm assuming these two will be at Regionals. . .also Roman Pulley can crack and I think he's still 15. Kashif El-Amin out of NC, Andy Chavez - that's my lil man too. One of the best boxers I've seen since I've been in boxing came out of NC- Mr. Wade Bolton. That's just off the top of my head, but I know there are others. Not sure how old Carl Perry is but Ebbie should be at the Regionals.Would you like me to keep going? lol. I didn't even get into Florida. . .

T lost to Gary Russell's little brother Antuanne. He's a little monster but it was a good fight. Tank (Gervonta) will be there of course.

D.C. - are you with headbangers? Which do you think of the D.C. boys have the best shot of winning the national Silver Gloves this year?

Nope. I'm with Dream Team. I mean out of the going we have three defending National SG Champs (Tank/Zimmie/Greg), but we have others that have won before (Martin, Nicholson, Harrison). We have a lot of Ringside Champions, but in boxing - you never know. Antuanne Russell won at the Regionals last year, but didn't go to Missouri. He certainly could have won last year at Nationals IMO. With all that said, it doesn't matter what I think - thats why we have these tourneys, right? I know that all the boxers will come ready from FL, GA, NC, VA and everywhere else. . .

Who do you think has the best shot from GA? Are those boxers I mentioned going to regionals? I look forward to seeing them there. What gym are you with?

I coach the Atlanta Police Athletic League team.. I think most of those boxers you mentioned are going.. My little 75lb who beat T last year would of had a chance but he didnt make his weight (in Ga. we have to declare are weight in advance -STUPID - you should just fight what you weigh that day) and we were not allowed to move up to 80 lbs. I think Justin Deloach will be hard to beat. The kid at 75lbs. is really good, he moved down from N.Y.. Like I said before the winner of Rondarrius Hunter and tank should be the front runner in Kansas.. Is Dream Team Sugar ray Leonards? Maybe I'll see you in Wilmington...

Ok. No, Dream Team isn't SRL. Totally separate. We used to box there. We have to declare our weight before too, in order to make brackets and bout sheet. Usually it's only a day or a few before competition. Some states actually weigh the boxers at time of registration. So, if you want to register as a 75lbs. but you weight 85 at time of registration - then you can only compete in 85lbs. division.

You must be talking about Terence Green? I think Justin may have to box Dusty Harrison. That will will be a good match. Who's the kid from NY? They had kid that boxed at Ringside from NY that I think lost in Championship. Can't remember his name. Tank is looking really good. Looking forward to NC.

We tried to go at 80 but the kid at 80 wouldnt fight terrence.. We fought the kid from N.Y. beat him (we fought him twice, both times close), but didnt make weight at 75 - really its my fault .. I know lil Russell is a beast but terence does good with south pas.. How far is Wilmington for you? I know you gotta be happy not having to drive all the way to Augusta.. Do they still do the mayors cup up there?

If he didn't fight, then you go straight to NC anyhow, right? We had unopposed champions and people who moved weight classes to avoid others. Yeah, Wilmington is about 350mi and Augusta was like 550mi - so yeah, that's much better. Mayor's Cup isn't what it used to be. Pretty much nothing actually. Really unorganized. We had a boxer that entered and didn't even get a match, but watched a championship in his division. Far from the days when people came from all over. Maybe if they get different people involved, it can come back. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Who did Rahmi Gonzalez loose to? He is a great boxer and I can't believe anyone in So. Cal beat him. Did he compete at 90lbs? Do you remember how Matthew Vasques did?
boxmel wrote:DC - Sorry, but I don't post the Silver Gloves district results. If I did the So. Cal, I'd have to do the entire US and I just don't have the time and fingers for that massive a job. The State of California is one franchise. California has 4 LBCs. Each LBC has it's own local tournament that sends its winners to the State tournament (December 6 & 7). The winners of the State advance to the Regional (6 states - first weekend after Jan. 1st).

I only worked one ring at our Districts so I don't have all your names, but I can tell you who I remember (I probably missed a few) losing in MY ring that was a national champion in 2008: Moises Orozco and Rahim Gonzalez.

I don't remember as I didn't keep the results. He lost in a very close bout.

Matthew didn't enter this year. He chose to go to the Gene Lewis tournament instead.

2 questions.

1. What is the state break down for the regions in silver gloves? I know it has 8 regions.
2. Who the hell do I contact for the silver gloves so I can send a boxer to the regionals, since the state(North Dakota) that he competes in is not holding a state tourny this year? The state director is not answering our phone calls for the past month now on getting this information. So now we have been trying to contact the coach for the past 2 weeks down in Sioux Falls which I know holds the US Championship regionals. But to no avail nobody is returning calls or emails.

Can't even get decent information from the official silvergloves site. This is supposed to be a major tourney that gives kids 8-15 experience in tournament boxing.

I have a feeling I will not get the required information till its to late. Which is sad kids only lost one bout in his 3 years of boxing and never been able to compete in a tourny to officially try to prove he is the best.

Shouldn't be that hard to get into the SGs. According to map that I have ND is par of Region 4 with Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota. The Regional Coordinator is listed as Joe Taylor, he's probably who you should be looking to contact. I don't have any contact info, but I hope that helps. I believe the Region 4 Regional Tournament is in January in Wisconsin.

You think it would be that easy.

I can I have a map of the regions for future reference.

I pretty much already know it is going to be to late. Cuase people either don't know any info or they don't contact back.

Joe Taylor is the one out in SD.

Joe Taylor is not just the state director, but the Regional Director. It's the same in our region. If there is an open weight class at your regionals because a state didn't have a boxer at your boxer's weight/age - you may also be able to get an "at-large" position at the regionals still, but it depends on the registrations. Our registration was a week before the tournament, but it is different for each tournament. Other than that, you may be right - but good luck.

Silver Gloves Regional Breakdown (per map that I have)
Region 1- Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Conneticut, New York, New Jersey (8)
Region 2-Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky (5)
Region 3-West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland/D.C./Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama (10)
Region 4-Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (4)
Region 5-Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas (5)
Region 6-Oklahama, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee (6)
Region 7-Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington (5)
Region 8-California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico (6)

There are some good brackets for this tourney. Really good!! Justin DeLoach, who won the National Silvers in 2008 - is in a bracket with 4 boxers (two have won the National Silvers and one was a runner-up). 14/15 139lbs. division.

Terrance faced our own BoxRec forum member Hal's boxer Anthony Stuckey. Anthony did a great job, Hal. In what I think was his 3rd bout, he boxed really well. Terence looked much, much bigger than Anthony, but it was a very competitive bout. I taped the bout and will be putting it up after the tournament for you to see.
