So will the winners here be at the PAL in October? And do you know what the experience of Taylor and Fernandez was? They both look pretty good.

Only if they decide to enter on their own. The Cal PAL is not an advancing tournament to the nationals.

You're welcome, Corey. The PAL doesn't have any advancing tournaments in its boxing. The national PAL is an open invitational, meaning anyone can enter as long as they conform with the eligibility requirements. The Cal PAL is ever only been a State tournament. It's always held in Oxnard.

Hopefully, we never stop learning - no matter how old we are or who we get our information from.

Hey Corey, you gonna do the PAL now then? That's good about that merge; I'm being killed doing all this travelling because we don't have sponsors either and it's super expensive, or it gets that way; and I don't like asking my folks for money.

HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WE CAN GET MORE CLUBS WILL PARTICIPATE AND THESE BOXERS CAN GET MORE FIGHTS,THIS WAS MY FIRST YEAR TAKING MY KIDS TO THE CAL PAL,AND FROM WHAT OTHER COACHES WERE TELLING ME THIS WAS A SLOW YEAR FOR COMPETITORS ENTERING,ONE REASON WAS THE GAS PRICES WERE HIGH OVER THE SUMMER SO COACHES HAD TO CHOOSE WHAT TOURNEYS TO GO TO,IN FACT MY SON ONLY HAD 1 OPPONENT IN THE 165LB OPEN DIVISION,BUT FORTUNATLY IT WAS JAMES TAYLOR FROM THE NAVY WHO WAS RANKED NUMBER 7 IN THE COUNTRY,SO I WASN'T TOO DISAPPOINTED CAUSE AT LEAST WE HAD SOME GOOD COMPETITION,BUT IN THE FUTURE I HOPE MORE OF YOU COACHES BRING YOUR KIDS TO THIS TOURNEY CAUSE IT WAS RUN PRETTY GOOD

Our event calendar for 2009 shows "Cal PAL State Tournament (verify dates with Oxnard PAL), July 8-11." You can contact Terrell Harrison or Rocky Garza at the Oxnard PAL, 805-385-8256, for further information.

MEL,ROCKY FROM THE OXNARD PAL RETURNED MY CALL YESTERDAY AND INFORMED ME THAT THE STATE PAL WILL BE HELD IN OXNARD AGAIN THIS YEAR,CONCORD,CA WAS SUPPOSE TO HOST IT BUT FOR SOME REASON THAT FELL THRU,IT WOULD BE NICE TO HOLD IT UP HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO SO NORTHERN CAL CAN HOST A TOURNAMENT,IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR OUR LBC,OUR KIDS,AND BE GOOD EXPOSURE FOR THE SPORT OF AMATEUR BOXING,WE'LL SEE, I KNOW ITS LOTS OF WORK TO PUT ON A TOURNAMENT

Putting on a tournament is an enormouse amount of work - I did the Blue & Gold for 15 years. You can always talk to Terrell Harrison about hosting it in NorCal - he might be willing to move it. :D

ROCKY GAVE ME TERRELL'S NUMBER,SO I'M GOING TO CALL HIM THIS WEEK,WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS THEIR GOING TO HOST IT THIS YEAR SINCE CONCORD COULD NOT,BUT THEIR WERE GOING TO HAVE IT BACK TO BACK WITH THE WHAT THEY ARE CALLING THE 1ST ANNUAL EVERLAST NATIONALS,I DONT KNOW IF THATS THE NEW NAME OF THE NATIONAL PAL OR IF ITS A NEW SEPARATE TOURNAMENT,FROM THE FEELING THAT I GOT IS THAT THEY PROBABLY WOULDNT MIND IF THE STATE PAL WAS RELOCATED TO NORCAL,BUT THATS JUST MY OWN OPINION.I THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR IT TO COME UP HERE,BUT ITS ALOT OF WORK,IF WE ARE ABLE TO GET IT UP HERE,I DEFINETLY WOULD LOOK FOR ALOT OF INPUT FROM THE PREVIOUS HOSTS AND ALSO YOURSELF IF YOU DONT MIND?

Terrell is starting his own tournament. Several tried to talk him out of it since we definitely don't need another one - there are already too many invitationals. I'm sure you have people in NorCal who are familiar with putting on tournaments, but if I can help in any way, let me know.

I'm goi g to seriously look into it,I do matchmaking for different clubs here, also I do several shows in a ballroom setting, but the tournament is a different story, this is something we need here in norcal,I'm sure if this comes thru,I will be looking to several sources for input, also I heard that the national pal would be held in Texas this year, any truth to that?Is that the reason that Terrell wants to host his own tournament?

Yes - it will be in San Antonio.

Guess he's trying to make up for not having the National PAL in Oxnard any more. He's going to have a hard time getting quality officials from outside the area and boxers and coaches willing to spend money to come to California. I wish him luck.
