Re: California state PAL results
So will the winners here be at the PAL in October? And do you know what the experience of Taylor and Fernandez was? They both look pretty good.
Re: California state PAL results
Only if they decide to enter on their own. The Cal PAL is not an advancing tournament to the nationals. So will the winners here be at the PAL in October? And do you know what the experience of Taylor and Fernandez was? They both look pretty good.

thanks for explaining that..i was thinking that it was an advancing tourney as well..
Re: California state PAL results
You're welcome, Corey. The PAL doesn't have any advancing tournaments in its boxing. The national PAL is an open invitational, meaning anyone can enter as long as they conform with the eligibility requirements. The Cal PAL is ever only been a State tournament. It's always held in Oxnard.thanks for explaining that..i was thinking that it was an advancing tourney as well..
Re: California state PAL results
lol though i've only been in amateur boxing 2 years im starting to catch on, mel..lol glad i got all of yall on here that know what the hell ur talkin about(well some of u)..i also think its amazing how we can learn from others that are younger than us, but the younger person has been boxing way longer..one of my teammates is 15..im 23..and i've learned things from him..just like i learned things from demetrius andrade at the 2006 under 19's when we spoke..i dont care how young or old someone is..if they have any info or pointers to make me a better boxer and better understand the game im listening..
Re: California state PAL results
Good! You're doing a lot better than some boxers who never ask questions and need to!!!lol though i've only been in amateur boxing 2 years im starting to catch on, mel..
Hopefully, we never stop learning - no matter how old we are or who we get our information from.one of my teammates is 15..im 23..and i've learned things from him..just like i learned things from demetrius andrade at the 2006 under 19's when we spoke..

true that! hey Mel, remember when i told you that i've never been to any national tourneys because we dont have any sponsors or dont get funded? wellllll i've just received news from my coach that we're gonna merge with another team and form the TARRANT COUNTY PAL..im very happy because for one, the gym is 5 mins away from where i live..i drive about 30 mins thru work traffic to the north side of fort worth and within the next two weeks we should be at the PAL gym
Re: California state PAL results
Hey Corey, you gonna do the PAL now then? That's good about that merge; I'm being killed doing all this travelling because we don't have sponsors either and it's super expensive, or it gets that way; and I don't like asking my folks for money.

Re: California state PAL results
HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WE CAN GET MORE CLUBS WILL PARTICIPATE AND THESE BOXERS CAN GET MORE FIGHTS,THIS WAS MY FIRST YEAR TAKING MY KIDS TO THE CAL PAL,AND FROM WHAT OTHER COACHES WERE TELLING ME THIS WAS A SLOW YEAR FOR COMPETITORS ENTERING,ONE REASON WAS THE GAS PRICES WERE HIGH OVER THE SUMMER SO COACHES HAD TO CHOOSE WHAT TOURNEYS TO GO TO,IN FACT MY SON ONLY HAD 1 OPPONENT IN THE 165LB OPEN DIVISION,BUT FORTUNATLY IT WAS JAMES TAYLOR FROM THE NAVY WHO WAS RANKED NUMBER 7 IN THE COUNTRY,SO I WASN'T TOO DISAPPOINTED CAUSE AT LEAST WE HAD SOME GOOD COMPETITION,BUT IN THE FUTURE I HOPE MORE OF YOU COACHES BRING YOUR KIDS TO THIS TOURNEY CAUSE IT WAS RUN PRETTY GOOD
Re: California state PAL results
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE OXNARD PAL WILL BE HOSTING THE 2009 CALIFORNIA PAL TOURNAMENT,I HEARD THRU SOMEBODY AT THE GYM THAT OXNARD WOULD NOT BE HOSTING THIS YEARS TOURNAMENT.I ALSO HEARD THAT THE OXNARD PAL WOULD BE HOSTING A DIFFERENT TOURNAMENT AROUND THE TIME OF THE STATE PAL,DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE?AND DOES ANYONE KNOW WHATS THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO HOST THIS TOURNEY IF THIS IS TRUE?
Re: California state PAL results
Our event calendar for 2009 shows "Cal PAL State Tournament (verify dates with Oxnard PAL), July 8-11." You can contact Terrell Harrison or Rocky Garza at the Oxnard PAL, 805-385-8256, for further information.
Re: California state PAL results
MEL,ROCKY FROM THE OXNARD PAL RETURNED MY CALL YESTERDAY AND INFORMED ME THAT THE STATE PAL WILL BE HELD IN OXNARD AGAIN THIS YEAR,CONCORD,CA WAS SUPPOSE TO HOST IT BUT FOR SOME REASON THAT FELL THRU,IT WOULD BE NICE TO HOLD IT UP HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO SO NORTHERN CAL CAN HOST A TOURNAMENT,IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR OUR LBC,OUR KIDS,AND BE GOOD EXPOSURE FOR THE SPORT OF AMATEUR BOXING,WE'LL SEE, I KNOW ITS LOTS OF WORK TO PUT ON A TOURNAMENT
Re: California state PAL results
Putting on a tournament is an enormouse amount of work - I did the Blue & Gold for 15 years. You can always talk to Terrell Harrison about hosting it in NorCal - he might be willing to move it.IT WOULD BE NICE TO HOLD IT UP HERE IN SAN FRANCISCO SO NORTHERN CAL CAN HOST A TOURNAMENT,IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR OUR LBC,OUR KIDS,AND BE GOOD EXPOSURE FOR THE SPORT OF AMATEUR BOXING,WE'LL SEE, I KNOW ITS LOTS OF WORK TO PUT ON A TOURNAMENT
Re: California state PAL results
ROCKY GAVE ME TERRELL'S NUMBER,SO I'M GOING TO CALL HIM THIS WEEK,WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS THEIR GOING TO HOST IT THIS YEAR SINCE CONCORD COULD NOT,BUT THEIR WERE GOING TO HAVE IT BACK TO BACK WITH THE WHAT THEY ARE CALLING THE 1ST ANNUAL EVERLAST NATIONALS,I DONT KNOW IF THATS THE NEW NAME OF THE NATIONAL PAL OR IF ITS A NEW SEPARATE TOURNAMENT,FROM THE FEELING THAT I GOT IS THAT THEY PROBABLY WOULDNT MIND IF THE STATE PAL WAS RELOCATED TO NORCAL,BUT THATS JUST MY OWN OPINION.I THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA FOR IT TO COME UP HERE,BUT ITS ALOT OF WORK,IF WE ARE ABLE TO GET IT UP HERE,I DEFINETLY WOULD LOOK FOR ALOT OF INPUT FROM THE PREVIOUS HOSTS AND ALSO YOURSELF IF YOU DONT MIND?boxmel wrote:Putting on a tournament is an enormouse amount of work - I did the Blue & Gold for 15 years. Re: California state PAL results
Terrell is starting his own tournament. Several tried to talk him out of it since we definitely don't need another one - there are already too many invitationals.THEY ARE CALLING THE 1ST ANNUAL EVERLAST NATIONALS,I DONT KNOW IF THATS THE NEW NAME OF THE NATIONAL PAL OR IF ITS A NEW SEPARATE TOURNAMENT,

I'm sure you have people in NorCal who are familiar with putting on tournaments, but if I can help in any way, let me know.[/quote]
I'm goi g to seriously look into it,I do matchmaking for different clubs here, also I do several shows in a ballroom setting, but the tournament is a different story, this is something we need here in norcal,I'm sure if this comes thru,I will be looking to several sources for input, also I heard that the national pal would be held in Texas this year, any truth to that?Is that the reason that Terrell wants to host his own tournament?

Yes - it will be in San Antonio.also I heard that the national pal would be held in Texas this year, any truth to that?
Guess he's trying to make up for not having the National PAL in Oxnard any more. He's going to have a hard time getting quality officials from outside the area and boxers and coaches willing to spend money to come to California. I wish him luck.Is that the reason that Terrell wants to host his own tournament?
