Thank You Boxing Fans

Post by boxref »

A lot of you out there may or may not know that my wife Esme, has for the last 18 months been suffering from Cancer of the Lymph Glands. This has necessated in her having to undergo harrowing bouts of chemotherapy culminating in her having a bone marrow transplant late last year.
Today, we were given the wonderful news that the transplant was a complete success with no trace of the cancer in her body :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
May I, through this forum, thank the many people that have supported us through the dark days. And believe me, there were MANY bad days.
At boxing shows I have been approached by complete strangers asking about Esmes condition. Ian Darke even mentioned her a couple of times on TV. I have had countless messages from all kinds of people in the boxing game wishing her well. From 4 rounders to World Champions, trainers, managers, promoters etc. To them all, I say "THANK YOU". I may come across as a hard bastard sometimes in the ring, but some of the messages of support that I have received have reduced me to tears. One in particular at Christmas from a guy whose initials are DC ( he knows who he is) was particularly poignant.
I would also like to thank my great mates Howard Foster and Dave Parris. Their constant phone calls and text messages were fantastic. On bad days, I would call them and pour my heart out. Thanks for listening guys. :TU:
With all its faults, boxing is still the greatest sport in the world with the greatest people involved in it.
Thank You.

Britain has the best boxing refs in the world and you are one of the best of the best, Richie.

However, that is completely meaningless in comparison to what you have been through with Esme.

Fantastic news and I'm sure I speak for all on British Boxrec when I say I hope the future is a long and happy one for you both.

All the best, mate.

Fantastic news!

I know how hard it is when someone close to you has the C word.

I had a few words with you once (nice words) when you were driving your cab around Mayfair, about 7/8 years ago, I could not quite remember where I knew you from but you said you knew me - maybe a case of mistaken ientioty on your part :D

As someone has already said - you are the best Ref and that is not because you called Richard Wiliams Vs Paul Samuels a technical draw :TU:

Brilliant news and best of luck to you both.

What a humbling post and it shows how much we take for granted!!

You are a top man Richie!!!

Will never forget you when I had to get you and some WBC officials to the "weigh in" for Botha/Lewis from the hotel in London Bridge to Covent Garden and whilst that was simple to some - not me I didnt have a clue - I was that stressed I can remember saying to you "how the f*ck do you know where to go" and immediately shut my gob when you said you used to drive cabs for a living!!! - You have also always had time to say hello - top Ref & top bloke - I hope you and the mrs have many more happy times!!
