Is Hatton P4P No1 if he beats Pacman?
I know there are lots of threads, Hatton says he is number 1 if he wins - is he?

No he won't be considerd a p4p man at all......DG. wrote:I know there are lots of threads, Hatton says he is number 1 if he wins - is he?

One of the reasons is that Hatton can't move up the weights and most p4p title holders can and have done that, ie, Jones, Hopkins, Mayweather, Barrera, Pacquaio etc etc.
I think i only really did this post to prove to DG that i can "quote" properly
Well, most of the time anyway
Re: Is Hatton P4P No1 if he beats Pacman?
so hagler was never p4p then?
dont agree with this weight hopping being a criteria for p4p not one bit.

hopkins was level pegging with mayweather for a spell.
and he was middleweight at the time and never stepped out of that weight class.
anyway hatton won a version of the title at another weight.
that proves he can at least do it in another weight class.

EXCEPTIONAL fighters can stay at one weight and be P4P, Hatton is not exceptional.

None of it is an exact science J, as you have said yourself,J wrote:so hagler was never p4p then?

Hagler was perhaps an exception to the rule and maybe there are one or two others, but there is no doubt that if a fighter can go through higher weight divisions and be just as successful, then people take note and applaud such accolades. That is one of the reasons for Barrera returning to the ring, to try and become the first mexican to be a four weight world champion, so i does carry some significance. Most p4p holders, however you deem the process, are invariably multi-weight world champions.
If you take the De La Hoya - Pacquaio fight, one of the attributes that people recognised was that Pacquia, a former flyweight champion, was taking on a fighter who had won a world title at middleweight and so the victory was more impressive because of that. Even you, have said in earlier posts on this thread, that posters were calling De La Hoya "shot" after the event and so are claiming that De La Hoya was still a very good and dangerous fighter, when he fought Pacquaio. It may not be fair on Hatton, who can't move up the weights, but a lot of the acclaimed fighters do and are recognised for doing so.
