on the plus side- looks trimmer and less plodding

also seems to have watched the Holyfield/Tyson fights and is stepping in to plant his feet between the legs of the sparring partner as Holy did to such amazing effect. Seems a bit silly as Holy was, if anything, better on the inside than Tyson in those fights and DW, er, is not and will get his ribs pummelled

The downside is that even a trim, mobile DW is still glacial. He looks petrified and concentrating on those big looping rights without a good stiff jab to keep Tyson off balance is suicidal

Can't see anything here to make me anymore confident about DW's chances

You can tell what Max think of his chances - there's a close up of his face, wide eyed and looking a little startled ( "what the hell have I got myself into??!!" ) and the background song is "No way out, or no escape"

Worryingly their whole game plan seemed based on tyson tiring after 4 rounds. If he doesn't, then what?
Well if Tyson tires considerably or not..even Tyson in good shape isn't as dangerous past the first 4 rounds. So i think the plan is weather the storm and take him on from there.

Just watched it, get your money on an early Tyson KO. Nothing new from Williams in there, not even finding the target that much against a guy not throwing back. And he leaves himself wide open to a right hand with that sloppy double jab he throws sometimes.

The vid was ok, I too wondered who that geezer was giving it all the chat. Do we know yet?

If nothing else, Danny seems to be getting himself into good shape for this one - He didn't look that accurate in the sparring though.

I use windows media player to watch the vids, anyone who's struggling, try that instead of quicktime.

Secondsout -
By Anthony Evans & Clive Bernath: Danny Williams roared with laughter when informed of the internet rumour that he had taken a beating in sparring ahead of his July 30 clash with Mike Tyson.

Over the last few days there have been whispers that the British bomber, currently preparing for his Louisville 10 rounder in New York, was bashed up and even knocked down by Oleg Maskaev in sparring which, obviously, wouldn't bode well just nine days before fighting one of history's biggest punchers.

However, a highly amused Williams told SecondsOut: "Oh my God! You serious? That's unbelievable! I haven't even met Oleg Maskaev; he was supposed to come down here and spar but he didn't make it. He wanted to spar at Gleeson's Gym but we're not training there no more and he didn't want to come to our gym."

Williams added: "Training has gone very, very well and I can't wait for next Friday when I finally get to fight the great Mike Tyson. All the hard work is done now, I'm ready. I go through the fight in my mind hundreds of times a day - and I'm just excited. Each time I fight him in my mind, he charges me. But my jab is ready for him."

There was irony in Williams's voice as he spoke that word 'great'; the friendly family man from Brixton has a real attitude on him now.

He went on: "C'mon, he's not great any more. He's still very dangerous but he's nothing compared to what he was. I know exactly what he will do in there while Tyson won't know what I am going to do. The first three rounds will be hectic for me, I know. But because I know I am not worried. And I won't be worried by his stare down tactics - looking and not blinding doesn't mean anything. Fights are won with punches and technique and mine are better than his."

Where and why do people make this shit up? It did seem strange to me that Williams would be getting bashed around by Maskaev.

No idea, I hadn't even heard that one. Maskaev has a glass jaw anyway. So many rumours flying around a Tyson fight that it's best to just ignore them and just wait for the first bell.
I suppose it makes the time go quicker though.

Where will Mike's next tattoo appear?? Is he turning in to The Illustrated Man??

I think this originated from the idea Williams had been open to right hands in sparring. Mentioned in this thread.

This probably grew to Maskeav landing right hands easily.

Then moved on to Maskeav almost dropped Williams in sparring.

Then Maskeav sparked Danny with a Right-Hand.

Its just speculation.

Tyson is going to be a mess after two rounds in this fight. Please god get Danny through the first three rounds. The horror on Tysons face if WIlliams is still there after three will be clear.

Add Tyson's back injury - the fact he was bored with training last week - and reports suggest he was throwing single punches from the first round on in sparring suggest Williams' has a chance.

I know James has heard conflicting reports suggesting Tyson is looking much better.

I dont currently believe anything the supposedly straight-talking Roach says about Tyson. Its all PR crap to me.

I'm waiting for 8 days time.

Yes, chinese whispers more than likely.

I have heard from the guys at maxboxing that Tyson looked pretty dire in the first week of training, but that his movement and

However, that is only what they saw whilst they were there, Tyson could well be performing to order, and then losing interest when the camera crew left.

Roach of course is going to say Tyson is looking better, though he hasn't exactly gone overboard and said anything ridiculous, merely that Mike is 'getting there.'

He is hardly going to say....

'You know, Mike's shot, he's too slow and too old, the only thing he has left is his punch, and really he doesn't throw enough of them. He has been pretty slack in training, and despite me telling him that this is his last run at things, he just hangs around smoking blunts and phoning bitches up all day, and does pretty much what he likes. I don't know why I bother.'

No he isn't, I just wish we'd drop the whole facade that he's some sort of no nonsense principles first kind of guy.

He got pissed around before Etienne, still did the job. He then took Tyson back again after a supposed life style change, great. Then we learn Mike's fed up of training two weeks before the bout and three weeks removed from 'him looking awful in sparring after the first round'.

TYSON is damn SHOT.

And that is the only reason I maintain an ounce of respect for your friend and mine Colin 'Lamon Brewster' Hart. Because he sat on a SKY show two weeks before a PPV Tyson fight and said Tyson was SHOT and Williams had no chance.

I know the two appear to contradict each other. But still some much needed truth on the subject.

Glen McCrory almost won a reprieve too for not towing the line about Vanzie v Earl - which was a travesty.

But hang on! Didn't Hart also say that Tyson would murder Klitchsko if they fought?

Like I said, its only an ounce of credibility. I think he said he would still fancy Tyson against the other champions (those he could remember) and the quote was 'EVEN KLITSCHKO'.

So....yes and no.

How can someone be shot, and still have a chance at beating the man generally considered the best of the champions, surely an oxymoron?

I'm sorry, but Hart's credibility with me is zero, he's stuck in a bloody time warp, and all he ever does is criticise everything.

Yeah, Hart's an arrogant bastard. I used to cringe when he sat at ringside with a toothpick hanging out of his mouth. Hart is only still around because Pat Sheehan is so bad. He actually dropped off the scene altogether but The Scum lured him back because it was obvious Sheehan knew nothing about boxing.

Well it took Tyson two rounds to do away with Julius Francis and Danny's a much better fighter than Francis and remember, Tyson beat Francis a few years ago now.

Danny's got a great chance as long as he doesn't take any stupid big punches.

I'm gonna put a load of money on Danny to win early, 1-3 rounds!

It amazes me how much the old Tyson 'mystique' still has him knocking out everyone in a round or two. I mean, Frans Botha jabbed him silly a few years back and Tyson will do will to improve on that performance at his age and with his level of inactivity.

While I wouldn't be surprised at an early Tyson victory, he's gotta reach the end of the road and I'd say sooner rather than later!

It's highly unlikely that Williams will fight as confidently as Botha though. And Julius Francis is probably harder to KO than Williams (with head shots at least).

I'm struggling to give Williams much chance, even though on his best form he could do very well in this fight.

Come on Danny just go for it! There's absolutely nothing to lose.

The Mirror -

DANNY DUCKS TYSON SPIES
By David Anderson

DANNY WILLIAMS has switched gyms amid fears that Mike Tyson is spying on him.
Williams had been using the legendary Gleason's gym in Manhattan to prepare for their July 30 showdown in Louisville, Kentucky, until he became concerned that the former world heavyweight king was having him watched in training.
His trainer Jim McDonnell was so alarmed by the appearance of some suspicious characters that he told the Brixton fighter to move his training camp.
Williams, 31, has now relocated to Huntington's gym in upstate New York.
Williams said: "It's good here and I've done some excellent sparring this week. I'm not going to let the incident put me off my preparations."

There's so much bluff and counter-bluff on this one it's not true. That said, what struck me about the Williams team was that they said the right things but didn't sound like they really believed them. When Eugene Maloney said that he KNEW Matt Skelton was going to be heavyweight champ of the world, you believed him, even if in retrospect you might not agree.

He's going to have to be damn busy for that first round, probably the first two or three. Any game plan which relies on the other guy so much is, however, fraught with risk.

When you say you believed Eugene at the time but didn't later?

What do you mean?

You dont mean 'you believed Eugene at the time' DO YOU!?

Just joking with ya, I'm not knocking EM or Matt Skelton.
