Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Bit of a mystery isn't it? I know Luke Wilton is on against Del Spencer but other than that....
Would be a great opportunity to give local lads some runouts.
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
scott belshaw is fighting on it an maguire
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Ryan rodes is on it . Personally i think its a shame that there aren't more Irish fighters on it . Maybe that's why hayemaker delayed announcing the under card , so irish fans would buy tickets assuming that there would be some more Irish on it

Ryan Rhodes?
I take it he isn't fighting Small now then - Twenty six get your ass in here and defend your man

Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
I would have liked to have seen more local talent getting runouts and even though Belshaw is on the Warren bill I didn't hear he was on this one as well but would be a good if he got a slot.

To be fair I reckon that there is feck all left in the pot after Hayemaker went all out to pay Appleby's purse.steve689 wrote:I would have liked to have seen more local talent getting runouts and even though Belshaw is on the Warren bill I didn't hear he was on this one as well but would be a good if he got a slot.

Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Good for the boxers but are the promotors paying well over the normal asking price.
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Wow , thats quite alot , why is it so much is it the fact that its away from home for apelby .bigped wrote:72k..... so pauls family are saying anyway.metropol wrote:What ball park figure would you say he is getting for this fight ? The promoters are quite new to the business, you can't help wondering if they are doing their sums correctly.leforge wrote:Good for the boxers but are the promotors paying well over the normal asking price.
Let's hope they've got some pennies left for Rhodes v Small.

here's a thought mate: maybe he's got other things to do than going on the internet to 'banter' with the likes of you?beagleboy wrote:I've never known her so quiet.

I mean, maybe, just maybe, at every single piece of boxing news related to Ryan Rhodes, he actually doesn't immediately think 'Christ i'd better get on boxrec and defend Ryan, otherwise heaven help him, for surely that beagleboy will run amok with Ryan's reputation in my critical absence'
just a thought for you to ponder.
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
I knew it was big but 72k even surprised me!

Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
That's crazy tbh, as if Gilmour wouldn't have taken £50,000 and been delighted, Gilmour probably would of still got to say it was the biggest purse he'd ever dealt with by a long way. The extra money seems needless.steve689 wrote:I knew it was big but 72k even surprised me!
However I'm happy for Paul, he's a good young fighter and normally domestic fighters aren't paid enough so I'm happy he's getting his money.
I hope Lindsay is getting paid well for this too, anyone got an idea of the Belfast man's purse ?
Re: Appleby vs Lindsay undercard
Paul "Chuckles" Appleby defends his British featherweight title against Martin Lindsay in a mouthwatering clash at the Ulster Hall in the proper fight city of Belfast on Saturday.
Lindsay is the local star, the mandatory.
These two due to meet last year in Glasgow but Lindsay required a stint of dental surgery and was forced to withdraw. Perhaps it made more business sense. Appleby, 14-0 (9), then got a straight shot at the British title and punched out a desperately tight decision over gritty fellow Scot John Simpson at the tender age of 20. Still only 21, Appleby retained with another hard-earned decision over canny Sheffield veteran Esham Pickering in Glasgow in November.
This fight is bigger and better now.
Appleby is a great prospect and a hard puncher but Lindsay, 13-0 (5), comes off a spectacular nine-round knockout of Liverpool strongman Derry Matthews in Sheffield, courtesy of a stunning left hook. Hailed as the new Barry McGuigan a few years ago, Martin showed why with that left hook. Matthews had held a win over Simpson, which makes this even more interesting.
Both unbeaten, both 'big' featherweights, both with real talent and ambition, Lindsay is five years older than the champion at 26 but 26 is hardly old and he enjoyed a distinguished amateur career. Ultimately, home advantage in a packed Ulster Hall might just swing it in the Irishman's favour.
Can't wait.

Brave call Bennie. I'm slightly swinging towards Appleby but it's a real 50/50 affair.
