Bang on Waylon, agree 100%. I always felt Froch lacked the reflexes and one-shot power to get away with his style at world level. I underestimated his phenomenal toughness and am relly pleased to see him achieving so much as his attitude is great. I do worry about him longer-term though and can't see him beating Kessler.WildWaylon wrote:For once I seem to have predicted it right. I really had a strong feeling Froch would visit the canvas for the first time and that he would have to KO Taylor to win. Froch did better in the second part of the fight but despite all his efforts I had him losing definately by two rounds and possibly three. Anyway no matter how we scored it, its the judges scorecards that count and Froch would have lost without the stoppage. Froch is now mixing in true World class company and sooner or later he will be beaten because of his poor defense. Apart from that being hit flush so many times with big heavy punches could cause permanent damage so I think he needs to do something quick to improve his defense. His idol Naz used that style but he had the speed Carl doesnt have. The first rules of boxing are keep your hands up and defend yourself at all times and Froch just doesnt do that. He somehow believes he can walk through any fighters punches to land his own which will either see him beaten or even worse brain damaged. I am glad he won but most of all I hope he learns from that fight about defending himself better.

I thought Taylor should never have been allowed to continue after the initial knockdown - his eyes were glassy as hell and he lurched forward into the ref's arms. He was pretty much defenceless after that.
What rounds did you score for Taylor?alexpaterson wrote:I had it 106 - 102 to Taylor he landed the better punches some of Frochs punches hit gloves or elbows whereas Taylor almost always caught Froch it was a good fight
My sentiments exactly. Froch certainly did not look great against Taylor, not until the 12th anyway, but he was forcing the fight from the 4th onwards and clearly had the higher workrate which tipped most rounds in his favour. Taylor's sporadic eyecatching moments were not deserving enough to win rounds!THEBUTCH wrote:We saw a very similar fight, ALI. The 4th round was where Froch started to turn the fight around IMO.
Yes Taylor showed real guts, he was completely gone, but even just before the end came, he was trying to fire back.THEBUTCH wrote:jamesmcdonnell, I thought the referee got it spot on, but wouldn't have objected at all if he had called it off after the knockdown, because Taylor looked very badly stunned. If he had called it off at that point, I bet the Yanks would really be kicking up a stink.
What struck me was how brave Taylor was, when it was clearly all going wrong in that last round, but he stuck it out to the bitter end and went out on his shield. Very brave indeed.
I feel the ref was giving him every chance to see the final bell, with a long looking count and a few seconds afterwards too.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes Taylor showed real guts, he was completely gone, but even just before the end came, he was trying to fire back.THEBUTCH wrote:jamesmcdonnell, I thought the referee got it spot on, but wouldn't have objected at all if he had called it off after the knockdown, because Taylor looked very badly stunned. Taylor took ten unanswered shots on the ropes and he was completely limp - he never recovered from that knockdown and I don't really think the ref made a bad call per se, but I think Taylor was clearly not in a position to defend himself when he got up.
