i think its fair to say he blew it,runnintg in the vegas sun in sweat gear the day b4.thats not proffesional.
former cruiserweight though so his accomplishments are made to look more impressive with him being a former 190 pound champDG. wrote:Quixall wrote:

p4p is a way of rating excellence in divisions smaller than the big boys. being the heavyweight champ - as lewis was - is as god as being the p4p top dog.
Yes they are!
Holyfield was Number 3 once upon a time!
Heavies are rated!
(Quix messing up the quotes,again!)

Ricky Hatton does not deserve all of this sh*t going on!!
I am surprised people are not stating what a credit he is to the sport - no matter what you critics say - he did an awful lot when the sport was on its knees looking for a star to celebrate!!
Sht happens.
He is a hardworking lad, but not the elite fighter he makes out, no shame in it , just admit it!
Not my kind of fighter, but he has done well.
He still did an immense amount for British Boxing - IMMENSE!!!
At last - a question worthy of some debate!!Collins2000 wrote:True, but does that make him above constructive criticism, Spud?
Yes.DG. wrote:
I did not mind the pictures once I knew he was ok.
This is an award winning photo.
Highs and lows of Boxing.

Personally I can't and never will understand the rubbish that Hatton has had to put up with since Saturday - you even get someone like Ant Evans (a former journalist? apologies if I am wrong) saying that 'Hatton refused to give interviews on Sunday and was 'larking about' next to the pool on Sunday.
I understand why it's possible to loathe boxing fans. I do.Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:Wrists wrote:

How dare Ricky Hatton use his free time "larking about"
Honestly, the man is worse than Hitler
1 pretty successful and current British boxer i know said to me once
"Boxing's a great sport, but jesus, boxing people.... i mean come on"
I knew exactly what he meant

Ricky's been tremendously successful and i think he's shown how important the personality side of the sport can be - as well as the fighting itself - in having a high profile. He seemed to be on fumes for a number of his post Tszyu fights so for him to have had the PPV successes he's had and the sellout crowds is an achievement in itself.Terry D wrote:Oh, I agree with those defending Hatton, he did a lot for British boxing, and his wins over Tszyu and Castillo more than make up for missing the superfight with Bradley. Although not fighting Sharmba Mitchell could come back to haunt him...
..or maybe not.
When making a casserole you can only use the ingredients to hand, and Ricky made a fine casserole.
Look at what he did when he lost his first fight at elite level, in his prime, at such a young age, he retired without telling anyone, even to this day!!!banjo wrote:but the one that really gets me is the criticism that Naz gets, forget what he's done outside the ring and look at what he did in it.
I never said he was great, I said look at the opposition who he beat but from the way people go on you'd have thought he fought nothing but bums for his entire career. Yes he did avoid Marquez, he didn't fight Morales but tell me how many other world class fighters in the history of boxing didn't fight somebody somewhere along the line? Yes he got comprehensively beaten by Barrera and never recovered from which is rightly why he will never be an all time great but based on his list of opponents he puts the likes of Calzaghe and Hatton to shame even though he isn't anywhere near as decent a human being as those two are.ALI wrote:Look at what he did when he lost his first fight at elite level, in his prime, at such a young age, he retired without telling anyone, even to this day!!!banjo wrote:but the one that really gets me is the criticism that Naz gets, forget what he's done outside the ring and look at what he did in it.
Criticism is something Naz brought upon himself. He was an extremely talented boxer with the guns to back up his boasts and was riding on a high for several years before he finally stepped up to 'elite' level and got 'owned'. A true champion would have tried to bounce back, but Naz burrowed himself away never to be seen again (except against that Spaniard). His ego could not take the loss. His ego could not accept he was not, and never would be, the VERY best, an elite level fighter, something he had always boasted to be. A rematch with Barrera was on the cards but he wanted no part of it, nor did he want Morales or Marquez. That has tainted his career, and he only has himself to blame for it.

Hatton has been a credit to British Boxing full stop.
I just don't and never will understand the need to take the piss out of him after Saturday.
This guy has done more for British Boxing in the past 10 years than ANYBODY

We hate it when our friends become successful,
We hate it when our friends become successful.
Oh, look at those clothes,
Now look at that face it's so old,
And such a video, Well, it's really laughable,
Ah hahahaha etc.
We hate it when our friends become successful,
And if they're northern
That makes it even worse and
If we can destroy them
You bet your life we will destroy them.
If we can hurt them, well,
We may well.
It's really laughable,
Ah hahahaha etc.
You see, it should have been me.
It could have been me.
Everybody knows, everybody says so.
They say, "Oh, you have loads of songs,
So many songs,
More songs than they can stand --
Verse, chorus, middle eighth break"
Just listen,
"La la la etc."
