Hatton gives up Mandatory position, Harris vs Hatton = dead
Hatton gives up Mandatory position, Harris vs Hatton = dead
Promoter allegedly and Ricky Hatton have today withdrawn from their mandatory challenger position in the WBA and will not go to purse bids for a fight with Vivian Harris. Warren said, "If for example we bid $2m for the fight, then Harris will get $1.6m and Ricky will get $400k. If you ask me if Harris is worth $1.6m, with the greatest of respect to him, he is definitely not worth it. I don’t believe he is even worth the $750k that we are offering

FW is out of order here, yes Ricky is the draw but Harris is the champion. They should go to purse bids if thats what it takes to get a real belt and not that piece of shit he has been defending.
Harris actually said he would split any purse bid 50-50 so cant see why they cant do that.
Come on Hatton & Warren lets see some real fights you have got away with murder the last couple of years.
1 blown up superfeather punchbag coming right up....

It's true, I cannot recall the last time a challenger threw away their mandatory position, it seems madness to me, is Hatton saying he would rather not challenge for the belt at all and take less money. It's tantamount to saying that the money is all he is interested in.
This looks very bad. I really thought that Hatton might be prepared for purse bids.

I think if things don't improve soon, Ricky will probably consider his future in boxing. This is getting ridiculous now. Harris should have been happy with his 750K, but at the same time I can see what he means about being the champion and wanting more than Hatton and Warren should do whatever it takes to make the fight happen. As it is, Ricky will now fight in the MEN arena against another foreign nobody. Regardless of money, if Hatton destroys Harris, then the money will really start to roll in. Then Ricky can say 'I'm the WBA Champion, I want more money from the pot'. Then the big fights will come. I find this unbelievable, get rid of allegedly ASAP.

Hang on a minute. Does it not occur to you that it is quite likely Hatton who turned and around and said 'I'm not fighting him if it goes to purse bids.' After all, do you think Hatton would let Warren FORCE him to relinquish his mandatory position, not in a million years if he didn't want to.
I have to lay this at the feet of Hatton. He's the fighter, and it's his career.

allegedly is scared he will lose on purse bids to other promoters that will force Hatton to fight in another country. That’s why the WBU title exists. There are no mandatory fights and you can fight any bums. Hatton never defended the British title because when he was the champ Junior Witter was the mandatory fighter for the title. Hatton also never fought for the European title because Warren would of lost the purse to Urkal handlers. Hatton needs Harris, all the other champions are busy and none of them want to defend their title in Manchester because they are names in the USA or fighting someone better. Hatton could have fought Mitchell in June but they didn’t want to put up the money and they didn’t want Hatton to face rusty Kostya Tsyzu in America/Australia if Hatton won that fight. :x

Unbelievable.
Call Harris greedy for wanting too much when he's not the drawer but he is the champion and that is far more important.
So does Ricky really want to be in boxing for the glory? doesn't look like it.
For the sake of one fight isn't it better to swallow your pride? if he were to win the title he and Sports Network could then make all the demands they like.
So yet another unknown lightweight at the MEN coming up. do you think people will still want to pay to see him?

Yeah right REAL_DEAL, and miss out on another M.E.N sellout pay night? Like that's going to happen.REAL_DEAL wrote:Dont bid 2 million then. bid a lot smaller.krikit wrote:said, "If for example we bid $2m
The fans should boycott his fights until he fights someone worth talking about. That's the only way to hurt the promoter, stop buying tickets. I'll be disgusted if Hatton now fights another bum, I really will. If he does, I think people will start pointing the finger at Hatton - does he really want it? There's only so much you can blame a promoter for, will Hatton take the easy route and keep knocking out nobodies?Wilko wrote:Unbelievable.

Doesn't appear that Hatton has much motivation to begin with. What fighter gives up his number 1 ranking. He should suck it up for one fight take the pay cut. If he wins then Frank and him can make all the demands they want.Goz wrote:This must be so demotivational for Hatton too, I can see him someone Spadafora even turning him over.

From how I have read everything (I have kept quite untill now) it seems like whilst Harris is okay with the money, he is peeved that Hatton will be recieving more than him (which is understandable).
I don't think any blame should be laid on FW because he has met Harries' demands. However, I can certainly see Harries' point of view also. This fight could be still alive IMO if RICKY HATTON was prepared to give more of his purse to Harries. Hatton will still be on a career biggest purse, and its the best opportunity to win the title - I would certainly bend a bit to make the fight.
Warren has the money to stike the deal, however it is RICKY who should be prepared to spread the money more evenly.
Its Hatton who has not painted himself well in this, not either Warren or Harries.
