Best One Loss Fighters

Post by Ambling Alp »

This group may be more impressive than the undefeated fighters.

Here are the most noteworthy fighters with only one official loss:

John L. Sullivan
James J. Jeffries
Gene Tunney
Packey McFarland
Salvador Sanchez
Aaron Pryor
Michael Spinks
Riddick Bowe
Khaosai Galaxy

How do you guys rate these fighters?

- Bowe ain't in the class of all the fighters mentioned thus far.

Brian Mitchell, 45-1, and Henry Maske, 31-1. Both losses avenged.

I'd call Tunney & Sanchez the best shouts thus far.

Henry Maske with his clinch and run tactics? You got to be having a laugh.

Well at least he was less irritating than Sven Ottke...

- What are you really going on about Roco?

Maske knocked out Barkley faster than the undefeated Toney did without needing to shrink Barkley down to a prune to do it. Ice John Scully rated Maske very highly for his defense and overall abilities.

Both were corner retirements after nine rounds.

- Not to put too fine a pedantic point on it, but both IBF title fights contested a year apart featuring Barkley's retirement.

Boxrec lists Maske as a 9 rd stoppage, and Toney as a 10 rd stoppage, an indication of highly technical details only known to boxing experts who combine rocket science with tea leaves to deign the final official result subject to commission overrulings and boxrec editing in perpetuity............. 8)

- In other words, you can't actually see the official results hinge on other factors. Typical myopic reaction you exhibit.

I think it comes down to Tunney,Sanchez, and Spinks.
All beat several really good fighters.

Jeffries isn't too far behind. He didn't have a lot of fights, but beat some really good competition as well. His loss was after a long layoff.

Do you even know what myopic means? Sure official results can hinge on various factors, but that doesn't change the fact you simply looked up the results on boxrec and thought you were being clever, wheareas you clearly have not seen Maske-Barkely! :shame:

- And what has this to do with the price of puppies in China?

No need for me to be clever when you've got your little puppy Colly still following me around wagging his tail in spite of having me on "ignore." There is not a single person who posts on this board who can tell us off hand what the round and official results were in many bouts they have seen except the obvious classics that stand out in memory.

Henry Maske was obviously a fine fighter with a better record than most and he met the thread criteria, so I included him. That you and little Colly don't care for him is no surprise, but it's telling that you'd rather talk about me rather than boxing, probably because you don't know the first thing about boxing.

Facts are Maske KOed Barkley without needing to dry him out into a prune like Toney did. Had Toney showed up instead, he'd get turned into a well marbled rump roast as we saw when he was run out of super mid by Jones and his own appetite and failed to handle the LH division save a few clubfighters.
