Agreed,Hearns was never better in my opinion.MightyWarrior wrote:One of the most awesome performances I've ever seen, the fight that hooked me on boxing. Hearns big test against the X Rated Mexican bone breaker, and he took him out in brutal & clinical style, barely breaking a sweat. I don't think he took a punch in return.chesh wrote:Tommy Hearns v Pipino Cuevas - exciting while it lasted.

Probably the quickest and one of the most impressive wins in a "superfight" you'll ever see. He almost knocked Marvin off the top spot with that one.Old bones Ian wrote:Curry v McCory was one of the quickest left hooks i've seen

Glad to see some other Simon Brown fans here, one of the most underrated champs i think.MightyWarrior wrote:Better than Brown v Trice??stujones wrote:

Shame he never held onto his money, think he needed help from the 'fist' organisation after his boxing career ended

Yeah, Curry really was the bee knees at that point. Tszyu vs Judah and Hatton vs Pacquiao compare, but I am struggling to think of anyone else.MightyWarrior wrote:Probably the quickest and one of the most impressive wins in a "superfight" you'll ever see. I honestly believe any fight with Pretty Boy Floyd in at the weight is a good watch - not a classic but the man is the big draw in the sport.
Could you imagine if Floyd v Pacman was made at Welterweight - a very possible fight - what a fight.

Mayorga V's Forrest 1 was brutal and totally unexpected after Vernon had comprehensively beaten a prime Mosley twice.
Re: Cotto/Clottey/Me and you
I feel both Jones-McCrory fights were great.
For some reason I'm not a great welterweight fan, but Simon Brown was in great fights & I'm glad he's been brought up: 1st with Tyrone Trice is an awesome 15-round war, 2nd was exciting if I recall right, Maurice Blocker bout had good action. Was Brown v Pettway - another wild one, Browd KO'd, throwing punches on his back - at 147 or 154?
Brown and Curry didn't have longevity, but for their inspired work done in a short-ish period, I feel they deserve a chance of getting in the Hall of Fame. Not all time greats, but they did some truly outstanding work before all went wrong.

Mayweather a great defensive fighter, never been in a great fight, never will be. very little rewatch value unfortunatelySpud wrote:I honestly believe any fight with Pretty Boy Floyd in at the weight is a good watch - not a classic but the man is the big draw in the sport.

Ahhh the classic fights - you know the fights we could watch without dipping further into or pockets for the PPV side of things!!!
Pay the licence fee - but then you have to pay sky and Setanta and then for the big fights its PPV money on top !!!
Bring back the good old days - they got the money from somewhere in those days!!! without all of this PPV b*llocks and we saw some classics on our screens!!!
I bet Buncey wont mention that rant!!!

Benn, Eubank, Collins, Watson, McGuigan, Bruno to name a few did very well out of the sport on our terrestrial screens.Hagler2002 wrote:And the fighters didn't get paid what they are today.Spud wrote: Bring back the good old days - they got the money from somewhere in those days!!! without all of this PPV b*llocks
yeah okay they went onto Sky eventually - but terrestrial tv did stump up the cash.
Undercard fighters for 4-6 round fights get paid anything between 1800 and 3000 - Boxing has some very hard choices - stop being greedy and get the sport stabilised that means a bit of cost cutting - but we simply have to keep the sport on our screens.

My guess is the for-mentioned fighters made peanuts on terrestrial TV compared to what sky paid them excluding the Benn-Eubank fights.Spud wrote:Benn, Eubank, Collins, Watson, McGuigan, Bruno to name a few did very well out of the sport on our terrestrial screens.Hagler2002 wrote:And the fighters didn't get paid what they are today.Spud wrote: Bring back the good old days - they got the money from somewhere in those days!!! without all of this PPV b*llocks

Clearly Sky paid more - my point is - peanuts is not a phrase I would use for what ITV used to pay out - before Sky came around and really upped the anti.

Ask any professional sportsman/women what they were paid before Sky came along and everyone of them will tell you it was peanuts.Spud wrote:Clearly Sky paid more - my point is - peanuts is not a phrase I would use for what ITV used to pay out - before Sky came around and really upped the anti.

Big Simon Brown fan myself - as you say he was an under rated, under stated champ.Old bones Ian wrote:Glad to see some other Simon Brown fans here, one of the most underrated champs i think.MightyWarrior wrote:Better than Brown v Trice??stujones wrote:

For those who haven't seen his WAR with Tyrone Trice there is a watchable version of this fight hosted on youtube:
Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73rIyGnjENM
Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_E759SO ... re=related
Part 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7a_24I9 ... re=related
Those are the first 9 rounds at least.
It needs a 4th & 5th part to finish the fight off but I can't see them on youtube
