I'm thinking of the 1989 version of Glenn McCrory who won the IBF World title from Patrick Lamumba and not the small Heavyweight he started his career as. But to be fair even as a small Heavy it took good British/Euro level fighter to beat him such as Currie, Ecklund and the late Rudi Pika.
I only saw Glen at Cruiser twice when winning and defending his IBF title that Holyfield had vacated. From what I remember he was a good 'box fighter' type, Had reasonable stamina and good all round technical skills, not a big puncher but had enough power to get his opponents respect. He was a good allrounder without being great at any one thing.
His one major weakness was making the old Cruiser limit, he lost his title to a brutal body shot when very very tight at the weight, so the new higher limit would have suited him much more.
So, how do you guys think the 1989 Glenn McCrory would have faired had he been active today? I think many of them are hard to call to be honest for various reasons, but I will have a go.
Nelson would I believe be too fast and tricky for him and IMO would have outpointed Glen.
Thompson is always dangerous as we know but I see Glen being able to avoid the big Cat bombs to outpoint or maybe stop Thompson late on.
Enzo, going by his last to fights I will go for the more experienced McCrory to have too much and to win on points.
Haye, Tough one to call as we still don't know how good Haye really is. So I edge towards Glen, but may change my mind after the Thopson fight.
Mark Hobson, this would IMO be a good fight but go for a McCrory points win.
What do you thing fight fans?
