re:machen/valdez.....i spotted machen right away...i think his hair was the tip off....but that big full picture of nino stumped me....now that the answer came through i think...damn..i should have guessed that. i didn't even remember that they fought.

..these pictures are just great... seeing most for the first time...hope you can keep them coming...and my congrats to the guys who are identifiying them!

Jimmy Barry?
Yes. Brother Bill fought the Nonpariel and brother Dave was the referee who administered the long count to Dempsey in 1927.

I remember reading that referee Dave Miller was replaced last minute because of connections to Al Capone.
I dont know if he was Rickards choice.

I had to go back into an old Dempsey book I had to see if I remembered right.
I wasnt really sure off the top of my head.

The timing was uncanny though.

Nah, I had to google it.

I like looking at the old photos and reading contemporary accounts from the inter-war period but know little about it really.
