Re: USA vs Italia
I have found out that the two teams may only compete once and it will be on the 12th in Voghera, Italy.
Re: USA vs Italia
The team landed in Italy on Sunday morning. Monday will be there first big day of training in Italy.
Re: USA vs Italia
The team will be training at the Italian Boxing Federation's training facilities in Assisi, Italy. It is similar to the USOC training facilities in Colorado Springs, CO.

Re: USA vs Italia
Which is the US line-up?
Re: USA vs Italia
In the red corner, you have Ronald "H-Bomb" Simms going up against the up and comer Patrick "Silky Smooth" Borkowski in the blue corner. Should be a good match-up.
Then in bout 2, we have Louie "New Mexico Kid" Burke vs. Don "Jersey" Givens. Wow, this could be a Fight of the Year candidate. There is a rematch clause in the contract so expect them to keep doing it sort of like Vasquez-Marquez, but this one might be better!!!
OK, all kidding aside that is the coaching and training staff, then there is Tom Virgets as Manager.
The boxers are the #1's except Javier Torres (#2) who replaces Mike Hunter at SHW.

Re: USA vs Italia
oh okay...all first place winners go to italy...so what about the 2nd place....how does that work??
Re: USA vs Italia
Boxers in the top five of each weight class are given opportunities to compete in other dual meets. In some cases, if a #1 can't participate, he will be replaced by the #2.oh okay...all first place winners go to italy...so what about the 2nd place....how does that work??
Re: USA vs Italia
Actually they consider the top 4 as top priority. A #2 has already moved up as Javier Torres replaced Hunter on this trip.boxmel wrote:Boxers in the top five of each weight class are given opportunities to compete in other dual meets. Re: USA vs Italia
Once again our team is young. I have listed approx ages as I don't have the boxers dates of birth. If I have approx 19 they could be turning 19 soon or just turned 20. The point is the team has mostly teenagers with Caferro and Gausha being the two oldest boxers on the team.
106 Miguel Cartagena is 16 or 17
112 Louie Byrd is 18
119 Jesus Magdaleno is 17
125 Kevin Rivers is 18
132 Duran Caferro, Jr. is 21
141 Frankie Gomez is 17
152 Errol Spence is 19
165 Terrell Gausha is approx 21
178 Robert Brant is approx 19
201 Jordan Shimmell is 20
201+ Javier Torres is approx 20

Re: USA vs Italia
I said the top five becuase they have, in the past, been afforded opportunities. Do you know why Mike Hunter didn't go?Actually they consider the top 4 as top priority. A #2 has already moved up as Javier Torres replaced Hunter on this trip.
Re: USA vs Italia
An injury from training. I don't think it is too serious so hopefully he can go to Italy for the World Championships. The rest may serve him well. He has international experience and facing Cammarelle at less than 100% is probably not a smart move.boxmel wrote:I said the top five becuase they have, in the past, been afforded opportunities. Re: USA vs Italia
Nobody knows for sure right now. Yes, they try to send the #2's to some other tourney or dual, then #3's and possibly #4's. A #4 doesn't always get sent to a dual though, but they are getting to go to the training camps and get sparring with the #1, #2 and #3 boxers.knockoutkingjay wrote:so what you saying is each placeas in 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th have a different dual they compete in or what??for each place finisher as in like 1st is going to italy, so 2nd will go to another and den 3rd and 4th would have thier own dual or how does that work or is it between 2nd 3rd and 4th they pickk who is more deserving??idk can you please infor me if you know!!

Re: USA vs Italia
I think Javier Torres is training at the Commerce BC with Robert Luna (Molina brothers).
Re: USA vs Italia
Here are the results:
106 Miguel Cartagena won. The Italian team did not have a 48kg boxer so Miguel competed against a young Italian boxer from the junior ranks, Alessandro Cubeddu. It is still OK since Miguel just turned 17 himself.
112 Louie Byrd lost his bout to Vincenzo Picardi, the 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist
119 Jesus Magdaleno defeated Vittorio Parrinello
125 Kevin Rivers boxed to a draw against Alessio Di Savino
132 Duran Caferro, Jr. lost to Domenico Valentino
141 Frankie Gomez defeated Renato Di Donato
152 Errol Spence lost a close bout to Alessandro Marziali
165 Terrell Gausha lost to Luca Podda
178 Robert Brant lost to Simone Fiori
201 Jordan Shimmell lost a close bout to Clemente Russo, the 2008 Olympic Silver medalist
201+ Javier Torres lost to Roberto Cammarelle, the 2008 Olympic Gold medalist

Re: USA vs Italia
what was the score between all the bouts
Re: USA vs Italia
They used paper scoring and they didn't know the actual scores. I was told which bouts were close. I think it was a good learning experience for the U.S. team. I know it was for my son. He was able to spar with two Olympic medalists and then compete against one of them. He didn't get hit much, he came out of the ring unscathed, he knows he can compete with the best in the world and with a little more work he can win at that level.
