Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
khan hasnt fought anyone near his size since prescott. so its a test really cos its hard to see how much he has come on since he fought prescott based on his last two fights. for most people even if he wins this he needs a rematch with prescott and destroy him to get true recognition.

23 people tipping the Kotelnik KO win at last count, its not as though its an affliction limited to Riddick himselfDatsue wrote:Khan on points. Maidana is heavy-handed, strong as an ox but slow. Kotelnik could see his punches coming a mile off & adjust. Khan has better punching technique than Carlos & hits snappily, which will give Andreas more problems than the bigger looping shots from the Argie.
Barring of course, some catastrophic failure of Amir's chin (which might happen, of course. But I don't think it will. This time): Amir on points, with Riddick Blowe either once again curiously quiet or raving about some imagined infraction that "gifts Khan the win".
Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
I cannot even remember what Kotelnik looks like. I saw him once when he fought Rees but I cant remember for the life of me what he looks like. I know Khan is moving up to face him so i presume Kotelnik is of similar height and build as Khan. Im just used to seeing Khan in with smaller fighters apart from Prescott. Im sticking with premature ref stoppage.

If Khan is gifted the win by some bent referee by premature stoppage, are you going to notice, or will you choose to ignore it and wax lyrical about Kahn's 'speed' and 'skills'?Datsue wrote:Khan on points. Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
Would this be the way I "waxed lyrical" about Barrera's chances, when I dug up an internet only video of his comeback fight & started a thread in which I described him as being too old, fat & shot to do anything? & also the way I "waxed lyrical" about Khan's performance after the fight, when all I did was come on here merely to go "Nyah-nah-nah-nah, I told you so!"?Riddick Blowe wrote:

Do you actually read my posts? Or do you just have some kind of filter that blocks any post that isn't an anti-Amir diatribe & therefore lump me in with the (actually totally imaginary on Boxrec) Khan massive?
Anyway, to answer your question, yes of course I'd notice. What possible reason could I have for not noticing?

I think Kahn has made massive technical improvements under Roach but he still hasn't been hit on the chin since the Bradis Prescott fight. Just can't see Amir getting through 12 rounds without being hurt unless he executes a utterly flawless performance.
If Khan does manage to pull off the win, I think I'll be even more impressed with Freddy Roach than I will be with Amir Khan.

Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
Haha, same here. I also think Khan's conditioning coach and nutritionist have done a very good job. His weight now looks much more evenly proportioned on his body, so he's got more strength in his legs.Punchy Joe wrote:I think Kahn has made massive technical improvements under Roach but he still hasn't been hit on the chin since the Bradis Prescott fight. Worth point out that Khan IS a big betting favour. If people are sure of Kotelnik's chances, then stick a wad of cash on him!Chambers2 wrote:Unsurprisingly the currect scene isn't as confident of an Amir win as the British scene is

a bet has to be made on Kotelnik. Unfortunately I'm a bit fu*ked for cash and getting fleeced for college fees this year so every penny counts which means I just can't afford to have a bet. I have 100 available to bet with, but only very confident selections will have my money on them. If I had a few bob, I'd be all over Kotelnik. Remember, on betfair you can trade. His price is likely to contract during the fight, whether he wins or not. He will have his moments imo.whicker wrote:Worth point out that Khan IS a big betting favour. The two results I just can't see happening are Kotelnik winning or points or Kotelnik winning early, because every time I have seen him he has been a slow starter.
I think stylewise, he's made for Khan, so unless he can grind Khan down, I think Khan will win quite big.

I don't think Kotelnik will win early or win on points. He definitely will not win on points and no matter what he says about starting fast, he will start as he always has... slow and cautiously. Just to suss out exactly what Khan has. You'd expect him to be able to cope and aquit himself well, considering his level of competition. Khans movement could frustrate him for long periods though. I don't expect Khan to hurt Kotelnik or KO him but he will be peppering him with shots all night. The question is whether or not Kotelnik can catch Khan in the fight. He'll need to be more agressive than he usually is. I don't see Khan slowing down either as his stamina will be spot on, especially at his age.RLewis wrote:The two results I just can't see happening are Kotelnik winning or points or Kotelnik winning early, because every time I have seen him he has been a slow starter.

You would expect a man of Kotelniks class and experience to find a way to get to Khan at some stage. I mean, he's done it in EVERY one of his fights. He's never been outboxed considerably and all of his loses are close. You would expect him to start going for it the more the fight progresses and one accurate right hand could do it. He could have stayed in his shell all night against Witter but he took his chances and pushed the fight. He has the heart to go for it and won't want to lose to a 22 year old.
Effectively, Khan backers are hoping that Kotelnik doesn't land ONE flush right hand in 36 minutes of boxing.
I think that is a bit unrealistic.

Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
Kotelnik isn't known as much of a puncher, but then again Willie Limond proved you don't have to be a puncher to wobble Khan. The only prediction I'd be confident about making is that Khan will have to get off the canvas at some point in the fight.
In saying that, if Roach has taught him anything, it will be to avoid rushes of blood to the head and take a more patient approach, waiting for openings to present themselves rather than forcing them. So even if/when he does hit the canvas I suspect it won't be from him walking straight on to a Kotelnik punch, so he should be able to recover and regroup.
I fully expect Khan to be taken into deep waters in this one, and he may have to get up off the canvas perhaps more than once, but ultimately he should win a close decision due to his superior hand speed and, if necessary, the generosity of the judges.

Good post, championship level fighters prove themselves in that they can negotiate their way through a war, taking some fire and giving some back.lirva wrote:I don't think Kotelnik will win early or win on points. The fact that Khan has thus far shown absolutely no evidence whatsover he can withstand shots even from the most modest hitters around, and at domestic level (!) does not bode well for when he's in with someone who WILL land and WON'T just lay down...

Be interesting to hear what you have to say post fight when Khan is having the WBA strap fitted around his waist.Riddick Blowe wrote:Good post, championship level fighters prove themselves in that they can negotiate their way through a war, taking some fire and giving some back.lirva wrote:I don't think Kotelnik will win early or win on points. Re: Khan Vs Kotelnik who ya got?
I know Rees is a smaller fighter but like Khan he has fast hands. As we all know Kotelnik found the answers, won the fight and became champion. If Khan does win fairly and squarely, then he deserves it, but some of us seem to think Kotelnik has more than just Khan to beat. Why does Khan get so many favours? If its Dave Parris, or any other British ref, Kotelnik should pull out. I dont care if the ref is French, Spanish or Italian any Nationality will do as long as he doesnt come from the same country as either of the fighters. The ref and the judges should be completely unbiased so the best man on the night gets the win. Kotelnik is tough, is comming to win, and is pissed off about Khan looking past him, and taking it for granted he will leave the ring as champion. I think Roach has probably improved Khan as a fighter but under pressure or when Khan gets over confident I think Kotelnik will chin him. OK maybe Kotelnik isnt the biggest of punchers but I think he hits harder than Willie Limond. Hes good at blocking and counter punching and I think at some point he will find Khans chin but probably not before the 8/9th round when Khan gets tired and makes more mistakes.

I go for Khan, that is if has learned anything at all with Roach - There is little doubt in my mind he has the tools to keep Kotelnik on the outside.
However, Kotelnik isn't a mug, and I suspect his best chance will be late on in the fight - He's the easiest option out there for a title and that's why the fight has been made.
There is a walking on egg shells feeling with Khan, and that isn't going to change in a hurry - Basically anyone who can land one on his napper has a chance, his chin is that bad in my opinion.

Khan is being handled the title whoever can't see that why else would they move up
and pick Kotelnik. This was the clear way to a title. Kotelnik went 12 rds with Galvin Rees,
but he will KO Khan this is great matchmaking.
