Herbie Hide - numerous charges including going out with a knife (wasnt it?)

Boxings a tough sport, fought by tough men, a lot of whom come fomr deprived backgrounds and mix with wrong 'uns. Its a shame when their "out the ring" antics surpass their in the ring antics, but hey, thats life. Look at football for example, Lee Hughes, Kluivert both killed people drink driving (i think) and more recently David bentley was lucky not to. Buts thats off the field and dealt with by the judicial system.

If every person who'd be in trouble with the law was refused a licence the sport would be even more fuc**d than it is now.

I think the sport would be better of if it treated fighters who use their fists on members of the public, their spouses etc seriously and penalised them properly. The right to box for a living isn't a right, and the actions of the fighters outside the ring, tarnish the sport's already ragged reputation.

You make it sound like all fighters slap their wives around, that's clearly not the case.

I dont make it sound like that at all James. And lets be fair, the number of footballers who allegedly do illegal things, george best someone mentioned before, Gazza, Joey Barton, Jermian Pennant, David Bentley, John Hartson, MARADONA, is probably equally as high, yet goes un noticed because its "off the field". The players play on. Yes, the press lambast them, but the next week they're out playing (unless they get a suspension) as its nothing to do with them on the field. Has it tarnished footballs reputation? No, people forget once the ball gets kicked, just as they do once the first bell rings.

Okay, so it would be in no worse a position if recently we'd missed Tyson, Corrales, Mayweather, Spadafora, Hopkins, Toney, Jones Jr, Calzaghe (was he "done" for it?), Tapia, Gatti etc.. etc.. Our sport would be in no weaker position?

The right to box for a living isnt a right, but where does this line get drawn. It needs to be black and white doesnt it? Otherwise isnt it unfair on boxer A who gets a ban and boxer B who doesnt? So where is the line? A conviction, a violent conviction? Where should the line be drawn?

What a stupid post! He hammered the living daylights out of several people and then gave a Spanish police officer a scalping blinding him in one eye. The bloke is a liability and should never get his license back, he has had more than one chance in life and fucked it up every time.

Haven't heard that before..blinded someone? I don't know, from what I've read the details are vague - I'd say give him another chance, taking into account that alchaholism is an illness, last time I checked, and once he's served his time he should be alowed another crack at beating his demons, why not?
