Any comments, criticisms or P4P lists are very welcome.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
will the prizefighter in october influence your thinking on this list as there are a good number of our best heavyweights involved.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
People will soon become sick of me pushing Cleverly but he is at least 4 places too low. He is a domestic no. 1 who last season beat the no. 2 and no. 3 in his division emphatically and impressively. Lindsay, Macklin et al, even Brook cannot say that. And speaking of Brook y is he ahead of former world and EBU champs?Horse wrote:Any comments, criticisms or P4P lists are very welcome.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
i agree about cleverly
however, as for the logic applied - i think i am right in saying (correct me if wrong) that this is simply the list of what the guy considers to be the best fighters, not a schedule of achievement, if you like ....

McCloskey is 15 places too low - seriously!
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
Hmm, it would be good to know what the criteria is. Even then, surely a guy can look better v weaker opposition so its unfair?danfoster wrote:i agree about cleverly

Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
You are not the first person to say that this list is unfair.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
Lol, it all depends on the criteria. I can't claim it as definitiively unfair if I have the criteria all wrong.

Horse, why have you left Joe Calzaghe off the list?
He's planning to fight Roy Jones again after he wins Strictly Come Ice Dancing Get Me Out of Here.

Horse wanted to use the 12 month inactive clause and in November it would have been 12 months.

i think you are confusing criteria with 'makes it up as he goes along'dbflex wrote:Lol, it all depends on the criteria. I can't claim it as definitiively unfair if I have the criteria all wrong.
no offense Horse.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
You have Ajose in (well done) - why so low though... the guy has good wins beyond Enzo Mac. He should be top 15 at the minimun.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
The fights are only over 3 rounds, so I would be unlikely to enter the winner onto the list straight after they won the tournament. However, if they got a good win after the tournament then I would include their Prizefighter results in my considerations as to whether they should enter the list or not, and how high they should enter.josh fg wrote:will the prizefighter in october influence your thinking on this list as there are a good number of our best heavyweights involved.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
Woods is considered the domestic No.1, not Cleverly. If Oakey had been given more notice, or had not been coming straight off of a loss, then Cleverly might have entered the list straight after that fight, and have been a few places higher now.dbflex wrote:People will soon become sick of me pushing Cleverly but he is at least 4 places too low. Lindsay is the domestic No.1, and he beat Appleby and Matthews who were arguably the No.1 and No.2 in his division.
Brook is ahead of former world and European champions because he has been fairly active since he won his title, and the likes of Arthur and Napa have lost recently.dbflex wrote:And speaking of Brook y is he ahead of former world and EBU champs?
Based on the calibre of fighters that he has been beating he is too high in the rankings. He has been active though, and been destroying his low level opponents as well as the decent McIntyre, who was ranked in the top 30 when Brook beat him.
A significant reason behind Brook being ranked so highly is that he beat a top 30 P4P ranked fighter. Other fighters like Cleverly, Barker and Murray have not beaten a P4P ranked fighter, so they didn't get the big boost that Brook got for doing so.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
So does beating 1 of ur top 30 mean more than beating say 3 decent opponents hovering just outside? i.e. Brook beat McIntyre but Clev has beaten Bellew, Oakey and McIntosh. Not being anal, just want 2 know. this is prob y we dont do a brit p4p list.

Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
Lol, Freudian slip? I meant Quigley of course who was stopped with body blows, hasn't lost since and is now a British champ. There are far too many Tonys in those weight classes from Liverpool! Sorry Bomber but I am a staunch red.mickey1975 wrote:bellew?dbflex wrote:So does beating 1 of ur top 30 mean more than beating say 3 decent opponents hovering just outside? i.e. Brook beat McIntyre but Clev has beaten Bellew, Oakey and McIntosh. I consider achievement to be more important than ability when judging where a boxer should be ranked.danfoster wrote:i agree about cleverly

Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
If he doesn't fight then I can't move him up. The M'baye fight should sort McCloskey's ranking problem out.sligobhoy67 wrote:McCloskey is 15 places too low - seriously!

I take everything into account.dbflex wrote:Hmm, it would be good to know what the criteria is. Even then, surely a guy can look better v weaker opposition so its unfair?

I don't see how my list is unfair.danfoster wrote:You are not the first person to say that this list is unfair.
It is a general P4P ranking, taking into account both achievement and ability.dbflex wrote:Lol, it all depends on the criteria. I can't claim it as definitiively unfair if I have the criteria all wrong.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
Get Hatton either off or further down the list. He will never be the same again having being sparked out against Pacquaio in that humiliating defeat.
Re: British Top 30 P4P September 2009
I don't believe that Calzaghe has mentioned that he intends to make a comeback.Captain Hook wrote:Horse, why have you left Joe Calzaghe off the list?
He's planning to fight Roy Jones again after he wins Strictly Come Ice Dancing Get Me Out of Here.
If Calzaghe does make a comeback then he can return to the list following a win.
