Well, though they might be a little misinformed about Calzaghe's management, it is true that US champions don't like to travel...

Americans only ever really fight in their backyard - Hopkins has only ever fought TWICE out of the US - one against Mercado in Ecuador and one against one 'Anibal Miranda' in Paris....

It goes both ways - after all they are supposed to be 'world champions'.

Are you on drugs? The above guys have beaten no-one, and there's no way you can call them better than Calzaghe.
I reckon he'd blow away the fragile Bayer in a couple of rounds.
Green might be the real test, but he's still pretty raw.

sad to say, my opinion of JC is the same as it is of RH

They have taken huge public good will and thrown it back in people's faces ( with no small help from FW ) and now a lot of people don't give a rat's chuff.

I have gone from beeing a keen supporter, to a frustrated fan, to a pissed off punter, to someone who wouldn't care if he loses and retires

I was talking up Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe big time two years ago. Now I look stupid for my faith in them. Calzaghe seems content with being WBO champ and retiring undefeated. Hatton, jury is still out, but it's not looking as promising as it once did.

I find it hard to get enthused about either of them these days, but I am still holding out for one or both to get a big fight. As soon as that happens, I'll be right back supporting them as I was before. Both are genuine world talents, I still think Calzaghe is the best man in the division, and I think Hatton is good enough to break into the top 3 still.

Beyer holds the WBC-Belt. i am no Ottke-fan but what he reached will never be reached by Calzaghe. but e.g. Beyer, who is more talented than Ottke, could unify the titles if he is able hold his mental fitness what he proved in his last fight.

Green isn´t the future of this division but is able to beat Calzaghe. but Calzaghe won´t fight one of the boxers i mentioned in the future because he and Mr.Warren are fornicating scared.

Stieglitz is one of the best german talents of all times. i am sure he will rule this division and light heavy in the next 10 years. he needs another two fights and then he is ready to win against all "big names" in this division.

You are overrating Beyer by a country mile. Catley knocked him out!!!

Beyer is mentally weak. that was/is his problem. since he has been working with a psychologist the last months he has improved. you could see that in his last fight. in former times he would have losen that fight. if he would hold this mental strength he could easily win another belt like Ottke did. the WBO-belt isn´t worth a shit in super middle.

The fact is, Beyer was getting the shit kicked out of him by Green, who was raw and pretty inexperienced, and was saved by the WBC commissioners and promoters who badgered the referee in returning the 'correct' result. The Butt which was deliberate, didn't in fact worsen the cut, nor did it cause the cut, it was just an excuse to get Green out of there.

He also lost to sanavia, you can make any excuse you want, the fact is he lost his title to a second or third tier fighter who is about the same level as Salem.

You've got every excuse in the book to make out that your eastern european favourites always get rated as the best in the division, but it's about as transparent as clingfilm underpants.
If they fight a rematch, Green is going to take Beyer to pieces.

Exactly. Despite my misgivings about the direction of Calzaghe's career, and sense of sinking dissapointment, I believe he is a much better fighter and champion than Beyer, whom he would beat with ease.

Trouble is, as the beltholder for the WBO he is never going to be face Beyer, Green, Mundine or any of the others.

No no, I'm not using that as an excuse. I am saying that he is content to hold the WBO belt which generally has the lower standard of challengers.

I do agree, Calzaghe should have left the UK a long time ago, he could have made a big name for himself had he done so.

Calzaghe never fought the 3 strong danish guys (Larsen, Kessler, Markussen), Ottke, Beyer, Sanavia, Häussler, Stieglitz, Lucas, Green. plus he never fought a reigning champion (except his first title fight). if he is so damn good why doesn´t he fight for the more prestigious belts? he ducks serious opponents or other champions. that´s all.

A bit of fair play to SN is needed here. The Jiminez fight was first offered to Markussen but Team said thanks but no thanks since they got a much better financial offer from Sauerland to fight Ottke.

Calzaghe is scared. this is the only rason he doen´t fight all these guys i mentioned. i never said he must.

Stieglitz is already ranked #13 at the IBF. that´s not bad regarding his age. i predict he will hold a real title in 2 years (no alphabet-soup-title like Hatton or A.Harrison)
