Matt Skelton any Future.
Matt Skelton any Future.
Does Matt Skelton have a future at World Level, after pulling out of his EBU-EU fight against Pianeta?
Why did he retire in the 8th Rnd?
I never saw the fight.

He has retired.BoxRec wrote:Francesco Pianeta of Italy, the Boxrec's # 15 ranked heavyweight, retained the European Union's version of the European Heavyweight title with an eighth round stoppage over former British Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Matt Skelton. Youth defeated age here, with the faster Pianeta, now 19-0-1 with 12 kayos, landing combinations on the slower Skelton, who at age 42 couldn't throw as many punches as his youthful opponent, and lost for the third time in his last four bouts. Skelton retired on his stool with an injured hand at the end of round eight.
If he decided to continue then I don't see much hope for him on the World level. I think he would have a decent chance at domestic and possibly European level though.
Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
Skelton won English, British, Commonwealth, European (and WBU world!) titles, plus went the distance in a WBA world title fight, I don't think there's much left for him to achieve at the level he can operate at. Considering he came in to pro boxing late, he had a damn good career.
Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
i have to agree with don and he has retired do to hand and wrist injuries

Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
He should have sat back and waited after the Chagaev fight.
I'm sure he would have been offered another world title fight. It's so disappointing, because if Bruno could win a world title; I'm damn sure Skelton could have.![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Why? Skelton was never even close to being in Bruno's league.skelp wrote:if Bruno could win a world title; I'm damn sure Skelton could have.

Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
Skelton would be a fun addition to any further heavyweight Prizefighter, and of course would be a very solid British title challenger and/or opponent for our prospects, but that's all at this stage.
Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
Please, Bruno was never in any league, he beat McCall because he was stoned. Bruno was never a fighter, he was a mechanical man who got lucky.Deserter wrote:

Could Bruno have gone 12 Rounds with Chageav, I think not.
Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
Fella, you really need to study your boxing more if you think Bruno was never in any league. Bruno would have KO'ed Skelton inside the first four.skelp wrote:Please, Bruno was never in any league, he beat McCall because he was stoned. Bruno was world-class in a far more competitive era and his excellent, thudding jab gave Lewis immense trouble before Lewis found the finishing shot.
Skelton would never have got inside his jab and wouldn't have been able to take his power. End of.

Re: Matt Skelton any Future.
I don't believe Matt has retired.
Those around him may think that's the right thing to do - but I don't think Matt holds that opinion.

"Retired on his stool" means that he retired from the fight, not that he has retired his career.Horse wrote:He has retired.BoxRec wrote:Francesco Pianeta of Italy, the Boxrec's # 15 ranked heavyweight, retained the European Union's version of the European Heavyweight title with an eighth round stoppage over former British Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Matt Skelton. I've followed the fight game since 1985.
Skelton would have busted him up. end off!

Mate, your user name tells the story, stop trolling and find a place where people are actually interested in what you've got to say....skelp wrote:Deserter wrote:

My user name tells the story, what story?
"Skelp" is a scottish word, meaning to deliver a blow. It seems relevant to the sport of boxing.

It did come across like that. I should have thought about how to better word my post before submitting it.Asterix wrote:Ah, OK. It was just the way your post came across.
