Matt Skelton any Future.

Post by skelp »

Does Matt Skelton have a future at World Level, after pulling out of his EBU-EU fight against Pianeta?

Why did he retire in the 8th Rnd?

I never saw the fight.

Youth defeated age here, with the faster Pianeta, now 19-0-1 with 12 kayos, landing combinations on the slower Skelton, who at age 42 couldn't throw as many punches as his youthful opponent, and lost for the third time in his last four bouts. Skelton retired on his stool with an injured hand at the end of round eight.
He has retired.

If he decided to continue then I don't see much hope for him on the World level. I think he would have a decent chance at domestic and possibly European level though.

Skelton won English, British, Commonwealth, European (and WBU world!) titles, plus went the distance in a WBA world title fight, I don't think there's much left for him to achieve at the level he can operate at. Considering he came in to pro boxing late, he had a damn good career.

He should have sat back and waited after the Chagaev fight.

I'm sure he would have been offered another world title fight. It's so disappointing, because if Bruno could win a world title; I'm damn sure Skelton could have. :verysad:

Why? Skelton was never even close to being in Bruno's league.

Skelton would be a fun addition to any further heavyweight Prizefighter, and of course would be a very solid British title challenger and/or opponent for our prospects, but that's all at this stage.

Please, Bruno was never in any league, he beat McCall because he was stoned. Bruno was never a fighter, he was a mechanical man who got lucky.

Could Bruno have gone 12 Rounds with Chageav, I think not. :OhYes:

Fella, you really need to study your boxing more if you think Bruno was never in any league. Bruno would have KO'ed Skelton inside the first four.
Bruno was world-class in a far more competitive era and his excellent, thudding jab gave Lewis immense trouble before Lewis found the finishing shot.
Skelton would never have got inside his jab and wouldn't have been able to take his power. End of.

I don't believe Matt has retired.
Those around him may think that's the right thing to do - but I don't think Matt holds that opinion.

"Retired on his stool" means that he retired from the fight, not that he has retired his career.
