That's the thing - Valuev will catch him with something.

We're not talking about a chris byrd style pure boxer here, who can befuddle the rather cumbersome Valuev, we're talking David Haye - bombs away, big shots, all out offence, and crucially, little head or lateral movement. i would even say Haye is made for Valuev.

Valuev was confused by Oldyfield because evander showed decent movement. Plus holyfield always had toughness at the highest level and the pedestrian Valuev wasn't going to trouble him there. Haye is going to just stand off Valuev and try and time him, and in doing this he won't be an elusive target. He'll either get caught reaching in or just walked down and clobbered by something big and clumsy but damaging. If he doesn't get caught clean he will surely be just worn down by Valuev's presence. Haye's style isn't made for distance box-fighting, it's for big kayoes. He is a pure puncher, full stop. If he can't get his man out of there, he's in trouble, unless his opponent's power can't trouble him - but this won't be the case at heavyweight. I think Valuev can take it and dish some out himself.

We all know about Haye's deficiencies and it won't take a King Kong to stop him up at heavyweight.

Yes, we all know about his deficiencies, but I don't think he's going to go in all guns blazing v Valuev. He won't try and knock him out, unlike most of his previous fights where he's looked to finish it early.

I hope he uses his superior skill and speed and dips in and out scoring points. I think that's what he'll do.

Sure he is going to take some along the way but Valuev is hardly Tyson is he? He's bloody awful....

For a man his size I admit he has a half-decent skillset, but overall he is just a big lump. If you consider Lennox, Ali, Holmes and co as A+ fighters, Valuez is an F at best.

The jury's still out on Haye, but I won't be writing him off...
I agree Haye will be more cautious than usual in his approach but this will mean he will be sitting there waiting to time his right hand, waiting and not working enough. Dipping in and out scoring points is all very well if you're used to that sort of style, but Haye has rarely had to give up so many physical advantages to be in a position where he has to box and move and avoid getting into a dogfight. (not that Haye has ever needed to be an 'inside fighter' as such - he usually has the power to end things at medium range).

I just think everything will be alien for Haye in this one - the size, presence of Valuev, the crowd, the officials and promoters, the occasion in general. He is stepping into a foreign atmosphere where the general thoughts/betting patterns regarding Valuev are very different from those in the UK. The Germans will probably see this as just another defence for Valuev, albeit from an outspoken Brit who is destined to get his comeuppance. Whereas we in the UK are billing it as a chance for David to fell a rather limited Goliath. Everything being foreign for Haye may be enough to tip the balance if things do turn out to be too close to call. I personally can see Valuev coming out as he usually does, but quickly realising Haye can be hurt, and then taking him out. Haye has been down vs clubbing punchers like Mormeck before, and Valuev packs more than Mormeck, and will probably land easier. I don't envisage a situation where Haye goes down a couple of times but finds his way back into the fight - I'm not sure Valuev will tire and I don't think Haye can turn things around with one punch.

I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm not there is a very nice payday waiting for me.

It's not terribly surprising that people would be worried for him, down against Mock, down againt Thompson, down against Mormeck, down in his last fight... which was almost a year ago. It's par for the course before a David Haye fight, bring up his chin, his stamina, his defence, etc. Then there's the Setanta/Klitschko debacle, the namecalling, that press conference... it all points to a fall from grace.

Some good points Riddick, I just think Haye will have too much of everything for him.

Let's not forget he is a skilled boxer and no mug. If he sticks to a gameplan he should take this easily.

Of course Valuev's huge size and strength will be a concern, but hopefully Haye can negate that.

And yes Haye lost to Thompson but he was green. He was blowing out of his arse, showed total inexperience but took it on the chin (literally!) after losing. He's not the same fighter now.

He still has flaws but he is a tremendous boxer. Valuev isn't.

Anyone who thinks Valuev is better than Haye must be mad. Bigger and stronger? Yes. Better fighter? Never in a million years.

The two primary concerns are that Haye has leaky stamina and has been floored by men almost half the size of Valuev.

Valuev ain't likely to go anywhere in a hurry, and If Haye starts blowing and slowing down then he's going to have a very hard second half of the fight.

Haye basically needs to do what Chagaev did, keep mobile, pop the jab and throw three or four shots before moving off left or right, or out of range - but for me, that's a style that's alien to Haye, who basically likes to stand and try and draw mistakes, then counter with a big shots from medium range.

If he stands still for too long, Valuev, ponderous as he is, is going to land something, and although the big lug ain't a puncher, he's still heavy handed.

no argument from me obviously about who the superior fighter is technically. it's interesting to me that you should refer to Haye in terms of being a boxer though. For me Haye is a pure puncher and won't change. I think an out-and-out boxer like a prime Chris Byrd could have outscored Valuev.

My issue with Haye for this fight is that he can't be that kind of fighter. Haye popping and moving, on the back foot the whole fight, is kind of alien to him. In a way, you could argue he did it against Fragomeni, but even while moving backwards at times during the fight, he still didn't show Fragomeni a lot of lateral movement and the Italian caught him on the ropes with some shots at times and busted up Haye's face too.

If a 5'9 Italian can impose himself on Haye, you have to think a 7' giant will, and worse. Haye can't afford to get into a corner taking those shots off Valuev.

It's all about styles. You're not wrong about Fragomeni, same goes for Mormeck and every other compact fighter he's fought that tucks up well and comes forward behind a tight defence. Those fighters pose Haye problems, guys who are tall and upright don't.

Valuev's size and power mean's you can't draw a strict comparison from Haye's resume, but if Haye finds range early enough I'm fully confident that he'll hurt the big man, maybe stop him. Haye's got a deceptively long reach, partly due to his athleticism and if he finds his range early, i think he'll produce a shock result.

It is troubling to think that a guy who hits as hard as Chagaev does, couldn't put a dent in him.

It may sound odd but I don't think Valuev can be grouped with that 'tall and upright' crew. He is such a unique physical freak that he kind of doesn't fit in with that type of fighter. unlike a lot of fighters in that group he doesn't use his size well, so his style involves plodding forward slowly, finding himself in range, rather than keeping guys well on the end of his jab. despite this he's hard to hit clean just because of his massiveness..while agianst most 'tall and upright' fighters the quest is to 'get on the inside', 'get past the jab' etc the quest vs valuev is just to use movement and pepper him with quick shots en route to some sort of 12 round endeavour. Add this to the fact that he has a pug-like type of toughness that isn't too common in big guys and you don't actually get all the expected qualities of the 'tall and upright' brigade.
It's hard for me to imagine Haye finding his range early, it'll be such an awkward task to get to that chin. I honestly think there's more chance of Haye hyperextending his elbow and having to pull out with an injury or something than him stopping Valuev.

i happen to think a corner pullout of Haye due to rotator cuff/ elbow type injury, circa rd9 or so, would be a really good bet :TU:

But what happens if Haye just finds himself out of his depth on Saturday.

What happens if he is just crushed completely ?

Looked what happened to Herbie Hide V Vitali Klitshko and Riddick Bowe, etc, etc

Its quite possible this guy will dish out a one sided beatdown.

Now of course I think Haye has a good chance in this fight - but he is up against it.

But if the worst happens and he just gets splattered - are we looking at David Hayes last professional fight on Saturday ?

Haye should easily beat Valuev to the punch all night, who is getting slower in age. The only danger is if Haye shoots his load and starts shipping big 1s late and Valuev just walks him down and stops him. I'm not sure how good Valuevs chin is but I fancy it getting smashed in this 1, just because hes big doesnt mean he wont get hurt if hes shipping loads of shots

To answer the question..............

I dont know if I will ever be allowed back on ESB my account is still active on the forum but they wont issue me a log on password

And to answer the other point

Aztec God was my username I logged on ESB with when I was long termed banned - until Aztec God was removed from the forum

However this Aztec God that is logged on here is not me - I have no reason to create a alias as I am here on the forum posting already

It is someone taking the mick

And I got a good idea who it is

I totally agree.

Hayes whole style is based on him being able to wobble a guy atleast.
He does not possess the ring savvy of even an ancient Holyfield, or the pure boxing skills required to carefully outbox Valuev.

I`d like to be wrong .. sadly I agree that Haye could be made for Valuev. Small heavyweight that fights tall who was knocked down by a super middle .. and has stamina problems ..
