for the life of me i can't see how people can be so confident in Pac stopping Cotto when pac's power above 135- hell, he had to bounce 690 punches of lightweight sitting duck target David Diaz to stop him- is, as yet, unproven. let me say again Diaz is tough but (a) about 20lbs lighter than Cotto and (b) shot and (c) not as defensively accomplished as cotto
but apparently according to some pac will stop cotto quicker than he stopped Diaz.
even with the argument that Pac not having to drain to 135 or below makes him much better (which i kindof agree with but only kindof...) i still don't see the equation 'pac takes 600 punches to stop Diaz, pac can take 100 punches to stop cotto', i can't see how it works. maybe i am being too simplistic and it requires some ace forum equivocator to explain it to me.
oh and the pac not having to drain argument works both ways, surely? IE, he no longer has the advantage of bullying people naturally 10lbs or whatever smaller...?
and yeah, cotto had some problems with judah, but i have seen some totally stupid sheet talked about how that might relate to cotto-pac ('pac is like judah but with more power and a better chin' being only one of the more ridiculous statements, IMO), when IMO Pac's power AND chin are simply unproven above 135lbs.
then there is cotto. took some hellacious whacks from mosley over 12 rounds. yet somehow to some its a foregone conclusion that pac can stop him where the much bigger mosley- a man with one pucnh stoppages over not one but TWO full 154lbers- didn't even come close.
how the hell anyone can be totally confident, in the way Pac's chin matches Cotto's punch, and the way Pac's punch supposedly wrecks Cotto's chin, how anyone can be 100% confident on that, is beyond me.
hell, i can see pac winning, but to call it as anything but a really close fight in which probably 4 outcomes are entirely viable, to me I just can't see it
anyway so, today and for the last couple of days, my final until i make another prediction is Cotto stops him. my reasoning being, umm, pac's never took a pun ch from any fullgrown welter, cott is much better boxer and slightly better defensively than given credit for, and blah bla blah
mostly i see Cotto's jab messing with pac's timing and rythmn and pushing him back. of course, it's not the first time i have expected a much bigger welter to do that to Pac so who knows.....?
