The Contender.
Re: The Contender.
8 fighters left heres the list;
Gold team
Kariz Kariuki
Sonni Michael Angelo
Les Piper
Junior Talipeau
Blue team
Nader Hamdan
Victor Oganov
Pradeep Singh
Adrian Taihia
Some very decent matchups in the coming weeks. Very conceivable how this ended up turning to shitt, as blokes who should have been fighting each other in the quarters an semis will end up fighting in the 1st round.
Take out Sonni and Adrian and my pick for the top 6 are left.

Re: The Contender.
What did people think of the Hamden v Piper? Looked pretty close in what looked a scrappy affair.
Re: The Contender.
I thought it was a fair decision. Hamdan was hitting more cleanly.
Good fight, both men were willing.

Re: The Contender.
Had some fun finding Nader in the super middleweight ratings. "Boxrec" rates him as a cruiserweight.
What next?

Re: The Contender.
Hamden would be koed if he fought Mundine or Geale right now!
Re: The Contender.
Mate from the 'highlights' they show of the fight on contender I actually thought Piper was going to win.Hounddawg wrote:What did people think of the Hamden v Piper? Looked pretty close in what looked a scrappy affair.
Does anyone think it is a bit of a worry that the Aus Champ gets eliminated in the first round of "The Contender"???
Re: The Contender.
this was the fight i got to actually go an see, when i was watching it to be honest i thought piper had it in the bag. He was dictating the fight in pretty much every round, you can watch the fight in full if you go to the website, have a look and see what you think of it.Marlin wrote:Mate from the 'highlights' they show of the fight on contender I actually thought Piper was going to win.Hounddawg wrote:What did people think of the Hamden v Piper? I thought they kept Nader in the comp just purely because of his name and his reputation (and he is boys with Mundine).
Re: The Contender.
Episode 3 seemed a bit more contrived than usual.
Nadar the ham played the hardman first then the man of empathy. Jungle boy remained a dope but we must have a village idiot!
Probable reason for so much Nadar time is that some of the contenders are as boring as watching paint dry and Nadar is used to spice things up, while the producers splice out the crud time.
As for the fight, based on the snippets shown, Piper seemed to at least equal to or better than the Nadar in what seemed a clinchfest. But Les is not Mister Personality and was punted from the show, not because of his fighting skills but because the producers can get more mileage from Nadar.
Again Johnny Lewis remains the show's "Peter Brady" and fortunately Charlotte was just as invisible.
Episode 4 hints at agnst within the team members, but just maybe the writers are adding a bit of creation!

Re: The Contender.
Piper won that
Re: The Contender.
I honestly thought Piper was going to win with the footage shown.....Hamden keeped saying he was old to Pradeep....... i think he's right.Marlin wrote:Mate from the 'highlights' they show of the fight on contender I actually thought Piper was going to win.Hounddawg wrote:What did people think of the Hamden v Piper? I think the first round should of displayed fighters who were expected to do well against those who possibly shouldn't have been there.
ie; Ben Maculloch vs Garth Woods in the first quarter, Daniel McKinnon vs Josh Clenshaw ect.
Remaining fighters that haven't fought;
Blue team
Victor Oganov
Pradeep Singh
Adrian Taihia
Gold team;
Kariz Kariuki
Sonni Michael Angelo
Junior Talipeau
So if Pradeep gets his way he fights Sonni, then that leaves Taliepai, Kariuki from the gold to fight Oganov,Taihia from the Blue.
Re: The Contender.
The highlights shown on the tv can be misleading. I was there and thought Hamden won clearly ( agree with judges) as much as i cheered for Les.
Re: The Contender.
Is This the same Sam Reese that took 5 minutes to wake up after Etianne Whitaker KOed him in the first round?Eric t wrote:I bet he got robbed in the contender though!!!, i don't know if any of these guys could beat him except hamdan maybe.Hounddawg wrote:Mate you're kidding yourself, he couldn't even beat this motley crew of inexperienced fighters.
Show me one world class fighter that he's beaten!
I was glad he was in the contender because i thought at least he was a decent fighter and it would be a break from Mundine beaten up Argies.
ATM Mundine will either fight a 6-1 fighter or a 21-7 fighter for the purse of 250000 thousand......if Oganov is to get back into the world ratings he needs a good victory.
This english guy at this other forum i post at said mundine fights like his opponent has poop on his gloves, it's trueD , oganov hits harder than most guys he has fought, so what would mundine do againts oganov if he fought like geale has poop on his gloves, he would run, i think if it went 12 mundine would win a ud though.

"He's a legitimate puncher, a very good power puncher," Reese said. "He's very easy to hit, though, but he hits hard, period.
Reese has been in with Edison Miranda and has sparred with top-shelf crackers such as O'Neil Bell and Julian "Mr. KO" Letterlough.
"Oganov punches harder than any of them," Reese said. "Is he ready for the next level? I couldn't say. But he always has a puncher's chance."
Re: The Contender.
If this is the case I reckon Pradeep beats Sonni, Taliepai beats Oganov and Kariuki beats Taihia.Hounddawg wrote:I honestly thought Piper was going to win with the footage shown.....Hamden keeped saying he was old to Pradeep....... i think he's right.Marlin wrote:Mate from the 'highlights' they show of the fight on contender I actually thought Piper was going to win.Hounddawg wrote:What did people think of the Hamden v Piper? So if Pradeep gets his way he fights Sonni, then that leaves Taliepai, Kariuki from the gold to fight Oganov,Taihia from the Blue.
So if you are a betting man take the opposite of that and you should be right

house x2...right there

Re: The Contender.
I think Oganoz will pick Sonni and smash him, Then I take Talipeau to beat Pradeep and Kariuki to beat TahiaMarlin wrote:If this is the case I reckon Pradeep beats Sonni, Taliepai beats Oganov and Kariuki beats Taihia.

Hate to say it but it sounds like another shocking decision. This trend in the house is not good for boxing as a whole...
Anyone else reckon last nights fight should have been the final!?!

Re: The Contender.
Is there any way for Contender fans worldwide to watch the show (youtube uploads anyone)? I'm in the USA, and would like to keep up from week-to-week. Any help would be much appreciated!
