Let's face it, our HW's haven't been much chop on the world scene for 100 years

sometimes i don't think you remember the greatness that was Aussie Joe (WBF?) world champ and Jimmy Thunder. These Australians were legendary champs.......

Well I remember seeing old Joe eke out decisions against Tillis and Bey. Then I went overseas for a couple of years. Whilst there I used to read about Jimmy Thunder and wondered if he was any good. The Mike Hunter burst his bubble and that was that :OhYes:

That was Thunder's tenth fight and Hunter's twentieth. Jimmy went on to beat a couple of former World Champions (Tubbs and Berbick) as well as being IBO heavyweight Champ and KOing Crawford Grimsley in 13 seconds (including the count). He faded towards the end of his career.

At their best both Tubbs and Berbick would have wiped the floor with Jimmy :TU: As for Grimsley...

The worth of Bugner's world heavyweight title is such that we Brits don't even claim it among our successes!

Thunder, meanwhile, is Samoan. (I know he has fought out of Australia, but wasn't he always billed as Samoan?).

PS If you're claiming Thunder, you should he's a TWO-time heavyweight champion of the world, sharing WBF distinction with Aussie Joe, and later reigning as king of the IBO, baby.

Tubbs was still winning more than he lost when Thunder beat him, Grimsley had never been KOed before fighting Thunder, having gone 12 rounds with George Foreman in his previous fight, his only loss in 21 fights at that time. The other point about the Grimsley fight was that Thunder KOed him in 13 seconds, if not a record damned close.

Thunder started his professional career in Australia and was Australian Heavyweight Champion. He only fought once in Samoa, well into his career.

I was aiming for an Ironic post. Obviously my aim is poor.

Thunder-Grimsley was awesome! The KO happened even before the cameras had panned out from the staredown!

Allen Williams, who won the Australian heavyweight title in 1955 and held it until 1959, with 9 defences, had a 39-8 record with 23 KOs. He was considered for a challenge to Floyd Paterson. He would probably have made a better fight than some of those Floyd fought.

Great stuff! Not quite how I remembered it, but essentially the same effect. Camera zoomed in on Grimsley's head; one second later, his head isn't there anymore!

My great uncle had a ringside seat in December 1938 to see Ron Richards fight American Light Heavyweight Ray Actis.

Uncle Arch sat down and put his hat under his seat as the fight started. He looked up and Actis was out cold on the mat.
