Lost a bit of weight and then won 2 National schoolboy titles and boxed for england on two occasions against the Irish and Russia winning both.Won a gold medal in the Trondheim gold Cup at the age of 16 and then gave it up.Finished up with 47 fights and losing 11.

I wasn't dedicated (LAZY) enough to train and was always unfit in most of my fights,as somebody as already said...Best years of my life.
Who are you MPG if u dont mind me asking :box:

I obviously boxed at a far lower level, but the nerves killed me. I couldn't relax from about three days away from the fight and on the night itself I'd be hoping my opponent wouldn't make the weight etc so I didn't have to fight. Ironically once it was time to walk to the ring I was OK and just wanted to get it over and done with. Even when I won by KO though, the feeling afterwards was largely one of relief that the whole ordeal was over, rather than elation.
The one thing I really noticed having performed at a reasonably high level at Tae-Kwon do and then becoming a novice boxer was that in the former I was able to maintain composure throughout and really think about what I was doing during the bout, whereas in my first few boxing bouts I could barely remember anything about them afterwards - didn't really feel in self-control in terms of distancing, timing and controlling the tempo etc. It was all a blur.
As I was older, I was also self-aware enough to recognise this (as a kid you're so much more instinctive in all your actions), and it really frustrated me that I'd 'lost' that composure.
My overwhelming feeling was just that I'd started too late in the game to really have a go at getting anywhere, so that made it hard to stay motivated, particularly once I started on a full-time career.

Two Staffs county championships on the bounce and an NABC West-Midlands championship during a 4 year amateur career. Drifted out the game in terms of competing and sort of regretted it ever since. Some of my old gymates turned pro and have done well for themselves, which does make me think what if....but ce-sera sera and all that.

Being brutally honest about myself, i had plenty of natural ability which got me by, but lacked the dedication and mental toughness/maturity at the time i was competing.

I was the 1998 class B novice national champion (under 20 bouts ABA champ). Won in Hendon Police Colleage. Teddy b4 you say what is that or poor level, I also was the regional ABA champ but came un-stuck in the North east counties against Nigel Wright 2 time ABA champ, I was unlucky to be around when he was otherwise i reckon might of gone futher. Box as a pro and can claim to have boxed on PPV. smoke that in your pipe. lol. Boxed for Hunslet in Texas 2000. Boxed in Europe as amateur.

So went up the gym took a good year on and off training and got my first fight.
Luckiliy i was taught the basics well as i was knackered after first round war and then won it with my jab and straight rights after that.

The difference between being Fit in the gym and a fight was totally different

Went on to have about 25Fights won about 19
havent fought in about 6 years but go to the gym quite regualar and talk of comeback creeps up every so often. :bag:
Please explain what you mean exactly by this ........

A fight takes an awful lot out of you emotionally, nervous energy etc You need to be fitter to do the same job in the ring as you do in the gym
