Will forever irk me that the sport I love is one I was the worst at:-)
I could never handle my nerves which meant generally after a good first round I'd just be knackered and struggle in rounds two or three. Suppose you could say I was a gym fighter because in the gym I'd spar anyone and handle myself comfortably. Was quite a tidy boxer with a good jab.
I struggled running too which meant never really had the strength required until I found out I had weak legs which meant I struggled running the long distances required to build up my stamina. Was an uphill battle as the lads at the gym would leave me lagging way behind so mentally that was tough because I'd be trying so hard but literally getting nowhere.
Didn't discover why I had such a tough time until I was nearly 30 when my ex-flatmate (a qualified fitness instructor and PE teacher) took me running and saw how I struggled he gave me series of exercises that were a revelation. In space of 12 months went from struggling to be able to run for a mile without stopping to doing the London Marathon... so that was a big victory.
Still my dream to have a fight where the ref raises my hand but 37 now so am way past it

Good stuff about the Marathon... well done.
I was a 4-2 amateur myself. Lost my debut and my last fight - got badly stopped in my last fight and got disolutioned that my coach didn't even pick up the phone to ask if I was okay. Just apparently (I cannot remember) gave me a bollocking in the dressing room. This is why I will never be pissed off if a fighter has a geniune illness, cause I was ill - but it was a home show and I'd been tipped off it was a relatively easy fight... which it should have been, having seen it on video. I actually went to the show actually believing the doctor wouldn't clear me!!! I was knackered in the warm up.
That fight is the biggest regret in my life I must say. The guy was pretty average, and to think some of my so called mates after where whispering how "chinny" I was after. I didn't fall, but was completely out on my feet (I was staggering and not bouncing before he landed his shots, I dominated the first 30 seconds but was stopped at the start of the 2nd). I'd been in with WABA semi finalists at Light Heavy (I was a Super Feather, and should have been a feather with a better diet) on 100% with fight gloves on, and never budged - it really hurts. I'd never been hurt at all in any of my five fights, and my debut I took a battering against a guy who never officially weighed and well looked about 6 foot 2 square (no exageration) and I was a 5 foot 8 Super Feather.... but even though he hit damn hard, he never hurt me. My chin was kind of the thing my clubmates noted me for.
Like you, Dirt, I still dream that I can somehow prove just how much of a one-off that fight was... might go for this white collar thing. I have to stay, working the bag and still doing the odd sparring - I am in alot more control of my boxing now, and just wished I was a few years younger.
