That could be true, but then again Wladimir and Lewis both tended to be too mechanical, imho. Sure it made them safer in the ring, but the snores grow louder with each passing fight. Steward's all about being a tactician in the ring.

but they only both turned tactical after being Ko'd before that they were more willing to take chances i dont think its all stewards fault as he does emplore them to make fights more exciting i think fury would remain exciting but his punch and fundamentals would improve he would only shell up like lewis and wlad if he was sparked badly

True, but I think the best way for Fury to really improve as a fighter, for the time being, is to stay as active as he can, and fight as wide a rage of fighters as he can bare to take: brawlers, speedsters, counter punchers, tacticians, tall and rangy, small and stocky, etc.

A man will sharpen is wits quicker in that fashion, imo, than anything else. Gym wars is one thing, but when its all on the line, thats when it counts.

agreed i want him to have a fight every 2 months that will take him up to 20 fights by end of next year and he should have fought the majority of boxing styles. thing is alot of UK heavies dont want to fight him thats why he has european journymen on his record.
also he is developing into a headline act whenever his fighst are on TV they get hyped as much as the headliner and its always the unofficial joint-headliner on hennessy shows and was the headliner on a maloney show when he won the english belt

Then Fury has no choice but to campaign outside the UK. If the HW's in Britain want to out price themselves or don't want to soil their reputations, then screw it. Fury needs to fight some US based heavyweights who can give him some tests, or like I said before, get Cruiserweights who can make heavyweight who would love the opprotunity to cash in on a fight with Fury. Certainly Herbie Hide is no coward, and Fury's no Klitschko, so whats there to worry about? Anyways, I'd like to see Fury matched with a brawler like John Poore. A big banger whose got his limitations, but gave Brian Minto some problems early on. That's the kind of guy Fury needs to be testing his limits on. Fury's young and has alot to catch up on, he's got plenty of time.

yea he does need to move on to america. all the top heavies are concerend with fighting each other such as williams-harrison-rogan and now sexton has gate crashed them and the prospects want to keeps as clean a sheet as possible. alot of the heavies have claimed they are being asked on 3 weeks notice or the money is too little even though some have been offered a carrer high purse. its baffeling if they do good againt him and still lose there reputation is increased anayway

Excuses are like assholes I suppose, everyone's got them.

Fury needs to be matched with Chisora and Price and all the other prospects in the UK, its only fair. The so-called best need to fight the best of eachother to prove themselves. Fifty years ago and prior, almost everybody fought everybody. Today? Guys are too particular. I can understand maybe in the early going to get yourself out there, but ffs, is the respect they get even warranted when they take no risks?

At least Fury seems willing to meet all comers, the rest refuse the big checks and complain about three weeks notice or even the pay. When you're an athlete you STAY prepared for any given situation, especially the fight game because an opprotunity can come from anywhere on any given day. These guys lack that discipline evidentially.

I understand age. Not everyone can be Wilfred Benetiz and win a world title at 17. Fury is only 21-22 (?), he's got years ahead of him. His father and cousin Bartley Gorman (well known gypsy fighter) fought into their 40's and 50's off and on, so am sure this traveller will mature in age anyways. Heavyweights seem to bloom in their 30's any more.

Its funny, how no more than 50 years ago, turning 30 in fighting was a death sentence. But then again, guys had anywhere from 50-100 fights back then, they were burnt out and legend made twice over. Jersey Joe Walcott at 38 was considered the best he ever was, but hasnt been until this decade that mid to late 30's seem to be the potent years for heavyweights. Indeed, Lewis was better with age.

Its speculative if Fury can do so, for his career is so early yet. Who knows what the future may hold or bring? I just hope he can maintain his momentum, keep active, and keep progressing. Someday there will be no Klitschko's and the division will be wide open for grabs. For now, though, being #3 (behind Wlad and Vitali) in the world seems to be the most coveted prize, and who would have thought?

but by age 39 he retired seems ironic doesnt it that the best he ever was was just before he retired

His biggest asset is that he loves the public, when i first met him (after his debut) no1 bothered with him except me and he was more than happy to chat even though he had just had a fight. the second time (at the froch-dirrell fight) he was mobbed by litterally hundreds of fans, he had his own marker to sign things and his wife was pissed off with him because she didnt want to walk around so he left her sat in her seat

 Well, am glad Fury is a man of the people and not letting success go to his head. The Fury's and Gorman's always seemed to be personable people. I reckon thats why they get held with a sort of respect over other gypsy fighting men like McLean, Shaw, Paddock, etc.

I may not be of the UK, but Tyson Fury has my genuine support.

Agree, he needs to fight McDermott again and once thats out the way, take it from there.

I think he will do better, second time round, but as already been stated, there are fights out there for him. Sexton, Sprott, even big 'Aud.

Tyson has done well so far, its all about taking it to the next level and can he cut it.

I was referring to longetivity, not bare knuckle fighting. The Fury's and Gorman's were men of long fighting careers, all I was meaning to say it would be something that probably wouldnt be an issue with Tyson Fury, considering he comes from that background. As far as gypsy fighters are concerned, am sure Savage, Shaw, McLean, Paddock, Waldron, Gorman, Fury, and a mess of others could fuck your shit up.

Sorry to spell this out to you but Gorman, and especially Fury and anyother gypsy wernt that good on the other hand in their day Shaw and Mclean on the streets were a force to be reckoned with but as soon as they stepped in a ring bye bye. Joe Savage the unbeaten bare knuckle champion of Great Britain....what a load of b*llocks.

Sexton still holds the HW Southern Area - just to let you know. He stopped Colin Kenna and that was the last time it was fought for.

HomicideHenry wrote:Fury is a guy I've really gotten into. The HW division is so depleted right now, and it seems the only interesting fights are in Europe. Fury is young and has alot of potential and a great back story. He reminds me of Gerry Cooney in alot of ways. I think Fury has alot going for him, if he can #1) make some fights that can be memorable (a brawl with Price would be great for him), and #2) be dominate always, evidentially he wasnt so much with McDermott.

Fury seems to be confident and keeps active and willing, so I believe a rematch he would do so. I'd just like to see more of him in the ring, against a broader variety of fighters. Timlin, as I mentioned before, is a super heavyweight like himself and not too shaby. Maybe Fury could test his mettle against someone like Herbie Hide or BJ Flores, big Cruiserweights who can make HW.
It's cool you found someone to interest you, but Fury is not going anywhere fast. If he ever makes it to the World stage, which doesn't look likely, imo, it'll be years down the line. Right now Fury would have a lot of trouble with the top British heavyweights, let alone the top boxers outside Britain.

Fury's technique is shockingly bad and his physique is awful. If he could improve his technique and get himself into better shape (more stamina, more power) then he might be able to do something interesting. However, he doesn't look like he's got the brains to sort himself out.

Looking at Fury's positives. He's a very big guy, his chin looks solid, his body punches have some venom and the hype surrounding him means he'll be looked after.

Not sure about Chisora or Timlin, but Price would beat Fury. I'm 95% sure of that. I don't know if you've seen Price fight, but he is very classy and visibly operates at a much higher level than Fury.
