Eric Armit - a living legend!
I'm always astonished by this Scottish gentleman's dedication to the sport.
For those of you who haven't come across Eric, he used to write for Boxing News for many years...then for me at BBN and now at BoxRec News. And this is just his writing, never mind his other roles in boxing.
Basically, he must do f*ck all else apart from watch boxing, read boxing and talk boxing. I don't think I've ever read a column of his and not learned something.
He currently does two regular gigs for BoxRec News - a weekly global results digest called 'Behind The Results' (Christ knows how long this takes him, never mind how he does it) and an incredibly interesting gossipy feature called 'Snips and Snipes'. Links to the latest two are below...some fascinating stuff in the latter column:

Re: Eric Armit - legend
I used to read his articles on BBN. Always interesting, and always gave me new knowledge. So thanks for informing us of his new material.
From reading his latest article, it's good to hear Nate Campbell has been signed by Golden Boy. It's also nice to see Armit have a go at the WBA, and mention how fallible the current scoring system is in boxing.

Re: Eric Armit - legend
I scour the internet for boxing news and gossip but almost all of that is new to me. Cotto to retire by October? All interesting stuff.
I grew up reading Eric's 'world scene' BN columns. He has a very distinctive, charismatic 'voice'.
When I read the thread title I feared he had died!

Re: Eric Armit - legend
I gave up following what the governing bodies did donkey years ago. I despise them all. But it's always good to have more ammunition when someone asks why they are so appalling. Honestly, Eric could write a book on their shenanigans. Blatant scumbags.Asterix wrote:I used to read his articles on BBN. Always interesting, and always gave me new knowledge. Oh God, I hope others don't think that...anyway, Mr Armit is in rude health.chinny wrote:I scour the internet for boxing news and gossip but almost all of that is new to me. Cotto to retire by October? All interesting stuff.

Yes, indeed, when I was obsessed by boxing trivia as a sixth former I used to get a lot of my stuff from Eric's 'World Scene'...made him feel a bit old when I confessed that
Re: Eric Armit - legend
I thought the same. Maybe the title should be more like "Eric Armit's legendary articles" or something like that?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Oh God, I hope others don't think that...anyway, Mr Armit is in rude health.chinny wrote:When I read the thread title I feared he had died!

The words "living legend" made you think he'd died?chinny wrote:I scour the internet for boxing news and gossip but almost all of that is new to me. Cotto to retire by October? All interesting stuff.

Yes, his articles are always a great read. Used to love reading them on BBN and continue to do so.
Often I read something, kind of forget about the news, and then wonder "did I dream that" - then I think, if Eric hasn't mentioned it then I did!
Always good to have some snippets of news in one place - and nice to see Boxrec News will cover the world scene in these snippets.
The Cotto news was covered on various websites - when I see a fighter make these "retirement dates" I tend to take them with a pinch of salt, especially after a hard defeat.

Yes, and 30 is the number usually bandied around, I guess because it's a round figure and sounds better than 40. But how many have stuck to it?stujones wrote:The Cotto news was covered on various websites - when I see a fighter make these "retirement dates" I tend to take them with a pinch of salt, especially after a hard defeat.

David Haye is the other one.... if he unifies the title, lets see if he does retire at 31.oliverfennell wrote:Yes, and 30 is the number usually bandied around, I guess because it's a round figure and sounds better than 40. Yes, he also once said he would retire after winning the cruiser and heavy belts, and not even defend them.stujones wrote:David Haye is the other one.... if he unifies the title, lets see if he does retire at 31.oliverfennell wrote:Yes, and 30 is the number usually bandied around, I guess because it's a round figure and sounds better than 40. Re: Eric Armit - a living legend!
Amir Khan retiring at 23 was the funniest one I ever read.

I'm glad you see the severity of it. This is probably worse than that guy's date. You may not be dirty on the outside, but you're dirty on the inside.oliverfennell wrote:Of all the faux pas I've made in my life, this is easily the biggest and most embarassing. I'd even say I'm getting an idea of how that guy felt in the "Worst Date Ever" thread in Other Sports.
